Nose bleeds
My 9 year old son gets them a few times a year, but when he does get them it looks like a murder scene. So much blood. Eventually stops, but is that normal? Last time it happened was about 3-4 months ago in the middle of the night and we had to get him a new comforter it was bad. I had them younger, but stopped after a short time. His goes on for a bit and eventually stops.

Nose bleeds
My DH had them like that as a kid. He will still get them here and there. I have never had a bloody nose so I think it can be normal for some people. My DH always has sinus issues so that might be part of his problem

Nose bleeds
I’d get it checked out by an ENT just to be on the safe side.

Nose bleeds
DD get's them. She's 11. She gets them mostly in winter (when nose is dry) and spring (allergy season). And they come out of nowhere and also looks like a murder scene. One time in school it lasted over 30 mins- I took her straight to PM Peds and by then it had stopped - they said there really wasn't anything to do. We've taken her to Doctors & ENT- unless it's actively bleeding while there, there is nothing they can do. They did blood tests and they were normal, so they attribute it to allergies. We use saline nose spray and it helps - they are less frequent now.

Nose bleeds
I started getting them as an adult...Probably in my early-20s and it continues even now (20 years later). I’ve been to doctors, ENT, blood pressure checks, nasal endoscopy. They have found nothing wrong and I am otherwise healthy.

Re: Nose bleeds
DS gets them once in a while. When he drinks enough water, and we have the humidifier going, it's very rare. When he doesn't drink enough water each day, he gets them more frequently.

Re: Nose bleeds
I used to get them all the time when I was younger. I had to have my nose cauterized a few times. Then I had a long stretch without them until my mid twenties - ended up needing it cauterized again. something to do with the vessels in my nose. They scared me everytime!

Re: Nose bleeds
I use to get nose bleeds that would take a while to stop. It turned out that I'm anemic, so I was sent to a hematologist to make sure my blood was clotting properly. I have to go every 3 months now to make sure all the levels are normal. I can tell when my levels are off though, because I start getting nose bleeds again. It's really common with dry weather, but they def shouldn't take a while to stop.
To start, I'd consult your sons pediatrician to run some blood work and make sure everything looks normal there. If it is, I'd go to the ENT and see what they can do to stop them. I'm sorry he's dealing with that, it's not fun

Re: Nose bleeds
My son has had nosebleeds since he was about 4 and they'd come out of nowhere and last a long time. But this past year (age 10) he started getting them more frequently, almost daily and they took a long time to stop. It was really starting to be a problem bc he'd get them in school sometimes. I took him to the ENT and he wound up getting put under anesthesia and having a small surgery (they cauterize the vessel) in November and it has made such a huge difference, he doesn't get anymore bleeds. There is also a procedure they can do in the office but the ENT thought that given the size of the blood vessel, that in office wasn't likely to be successful. After the surgery the doctor told me that had he attempted the in-office procedure, my son would've bled so badly that he would not have been able to stop it and we would've had to go straight to the ER.

Re: Nose bleeds
my dd gets them - running a humidifier in her room has helped a lot- we have forced hot air so our house gets very dry

Not really. I think it's from the allergies or cold weather. He has a humidifier in his room and always got them

Nose bleeds
My son used to get them bad, same looked like a murder scene. He saw an ENT, had to get cauterized. It actually turns out he has a clotting disorder which was discovered after blood work. As an adult now, he rarely gets a nosebleed though.

I agree with this....my mother was getting nose bleeds....she had a bad one a few months ago. Had extreme anemia that turned out to be Acute Myeloid Leukemia (she recently passed) -- NOT AT ALL saying that's what it is, but I would suggest bloodwork just to be on the safe side.
