not doing lamaze?

Is anyone else not doing lamaze ? Im not doing it. All the women that i speak to say its kinda a waste, they say the information that the class gives you is good but the whole breathing and all that goes out the window.

Re: not doing lamaze?

i'm not. For the most part, i think it gives women the confidence to think they're ready for birth and prepared. But i don't see it being too useful personally. I mean can you really be prepared?!??! Chat Icon

We aren't. We got the DVD "Laugh and Learn in Childbirth" and it was very helpful. Plus we got to sit on our couch and watch it! Chat Icon

Re: not doing lamaze?

i wasnt going to do it but then i heard DH could not be in the room if for some reason i needed an emergency c-section without taking the class. If that was to occur i would be freaking out to begin with i couldnt imagine not having DH with me. Honestly yes parts of the class were kind of a waste of time(watchin the movies etc) i did an all day class but now i feel so much more prepared. Not just with breathing but we were shown all the medical equipment they will be using and exactly what happens with medical procedures such as putting in the epidural etc.

There is a bit of Lamaze built into the 6 childbirth preparedness classes that we are taking.

I specifically asked my DR about this because I think you said this before and she said that is a very old rule and not the case anymore. I am delivering at Stony Brook and I think she also delivers at St. Charles.

ETA: My BF delivered at St. Catherines twice and she also didn't have to take classes. The first time which was 8 years ago I was with her when she had a c-section and her DH was in the room with her for her second c-section.

That's what I did. All our friends said it was a waste.

The DVD was fine.

Re: not doing lamaze?

I am taking bradley method. It more about understanding your body, certain maternity exercises and how to teach yourself to relax. Some people like the distraction that Lamaze teaches but bradley teaches that you listen to your body and work with it and relax. I took lamaze with #1 and it did not work for me.

I may take a Bradley class also, depending on when its offered.
I am not going to take Lamaze.
