Not really pet related: Got the you-know-what scared out of me tonight
So DH and I decided to take a walk around our apartment complex tonight. All of a sudden we came face to face with a large pit bull. I want to say right now that I do not have a specific problem w/ them. I know it's how you raise them. My BIL has 3 and I am fine with them. Around here though... would not trust it. The dog looked right at me and started to growl, charge, and pull on the leash. Luckily the owner had a handle on it good enough, but my heart was in my through. Thing is that it's a restricted breed in my complex. We have reported them, and management has done nothing about them. We are leaving the complex soon anyway, do I bother reporting it again? This is just one of the many, many things that goes on here that shouldn't.

Scary!! I love animals, but you never know what they are capable of. Especially when they might of been raised by the wrong person.

Since you are leaving, why make trouble for yourself. You made a complaint in the past- they did nada- the dog didnt attack you and it was leashed. Scary though.

I'm going to start trouble here most likely, but - A: The dog growled and pulled towards you, but the owner had him on the leash and restrained him B: It's a controlled animal in the complex, but maybe they know he has the dog and has shown that it is not dangerous so he is allowed to keep it.
My dog sometimes growls and lunges at people when we walk by for no reason at all. Obviously, we hold onto her. I don't know why she does it, since she has NEVER bitten anyone and anyone who has met her and been with her can vouch for the fact that she's not mean. I seriously think they can sense fear and take advantage of it. Or maybe, the dog is being protective.
Whatever is going on - I wouldn't report it...you are leaving, the dog did nothing to you. Why create problems for this person.

I agree! It didn't bite you and it was on the leash. I have a Rottie puppy and know the bad rep this breed gets. I get so upset when people say things and my pup LOVES attention. With my dog if you are not introduced she will bark. Protective of its owner but loves everyone. If you are leaving why would you want to start trouble...sorry I agree with above poster. It didn't do anything to you. A small yappy dog would do the same thing. JMHO

ITA with the above posters. This owner may be very responsible with this breed. Use caution when near this dog, as with any strange dog you encounter.

Re: Not really pet related: Got the you-know-what scared out of me tonight
No trouble at all, I just wanted to clarify. Where I live, it states on the lease which breeds are not allowed on the property. In fairness they can not make exceptions for one person in such a large complex like this. Many people here have/do things they are not supposed to. DH and I did bring it to the office's attention a few months ago, and they did say that if they see these dogs they will fine and possibly evict.
The problem is that I have seen this gentleman walk this dog before. When he walks him during the day the dog is not on a leesh, he is leeshed at night (maybe because he is a black dog and is hard to see...dunno). However, I was thinking about our past experiences with our leasing office, and remembering why we are leaving in the first place, it would probably be difficult to report it w/ out knowing this gentleman's apt #. I know if we go down there and say anything it will fall on deaf ears. I pray that this dog is raised well for the sake of the small children in our complex. The dog should not be here though...it's against the lease.
