Not so good news... prayers please
Today I went to my OB's office for a growth sono. I was told that the sono tech would also be checking my cervical length due to me complaining of lots of pressure, very low cramping and pelvic pain. The tech was really sweet and talked me thru everything she was doing. Let me preface this all by saying I am 33 weeks today. I delivered DD#1 last year in October at 36w5d.
Here are the issues: first of all, DD#2 is breech. NOT what I wanted to hear. I asked the tech if she was likely to turn- she said, "Maybe," but she didn't sound very convincing. I really don't want a C/S. And I'm a bit put off by the thought of my OB trying to manually turn her. Second, DD#2 is measuring 2 weeks ahead at 35 weeks and though I really don't put any stock in the weight measurement, she is showing at 5lbs. 11oz. Of course her head is the biggest measurement of all at 35w4d. Third, after checking my cervix, the tech told me that it is quite short and that she needed to speak to the doctor. She wouldn't tell me the exact measurement and also said that she cannot tell if it is funneling or not since she couldn't get a good angle.
So, I waited for my OB to call the office after my sono (he was at the airport waiting to take a flight ) and he told me that I need to really take it easy and do my best to either be sitting or laying down as much as possible. How I will be able to do this with a 13 month old I have no idea. She just started cruising inside her playpen about 2 weeks ago and is not ready at all to walk yet. I have an appt next Thurs. with the OB, and he said that we will check my cervix again at that time. He told me that I will probably deliver within a week or two.
If you know me IRL, you know that I very rarely (if ever) panic, but I gotta tell you girls, I'm a smidge worried. The fact is, I am only 33 weeks and the OB is thinking that I will be delivering within 2 weeks from now! And to top it off, being that the baby is breech is giving me more anxiety than I need right now. I really don't want a C/S- we live in a colonial and I need to take stairs to get to our bedroom and baby's room. Not to mention, we're starting construction on our extension on 11/30.
I would truly appreciate it if you could throw some prayers and positive thoughts my way. Lots of prayers for DD#2 to grow, grow, grow and positive thoughts for me so I don't have a nervous breakdown.

Re: Not so good news... prayers please
i wouldnt take too much stock in the growth measurements. at my 30 week sono they told me i was 33 weeks!! that if i carried to 40 weeks i could be looking at a 9-10lb baby. DS head was big as well, but was born at 7lbs 13 oz.
my dr. had me in a panic about scheduling a c/section without really knowing more. measurements can be off.
for the cervix issue, just take it easy as best you can. your baby can turn at any time. DS was breech at one point and turned on his own just fine.

first off
second - my ob/gyn said that 34 weeks is pretty much the time when the baby will be in position (that's why he does the growth sono then) - so there's still time for your little one to turn!
also... how do they measure your cervix??

Re: Not so good news... prayers please
Please relax!!!! Baby has plenty of time to get into position. DS was actually Frank's breech at this point and got into position just fine.
The weight measurements could be off as well. Please don't worry.

She had to do an internal sono to check cervical length. Not fun! I hope you're right, and this kid turns!

I agree, I never believe the weight measurements when I hear them. And the breech thing- the reason why I am worried is because of my cervical length. If DD#2 had 7 weeks to turn- then no big deal. But if he checks my cervix next Thurs and it's shorter or still short, and she still hasn't turned, that is what I am worried about.
Another point I forgot to mention- last time I had symptoms of pre-eclampsia. I had to get blood drawn and drop off my 24-hour urine today. I hope that I don't have that to worry about too, b/c he will definitely take the baby early if I am showing protein.

Re: Not so good news... prayers please
Lots of
I don't know enough about this, but I have read that playing music low on your belly can sometimes help the baby turn down. Also that getting on all fours allows the baby to have a little extra room to turn, so maybe try these two things together?? Sorry if it sounds stupid, but I don't think it would hurt to try.

Re: Not so good news... prayers please
first of all
my experience has been that growth sonos are often off. mine was WAY off - over 2 lbs. off.
and as far as c-sections go, i can tell you that i was able to handle stairs as soon as i went home. they were not nearly as bad as i thought they were going to be. actually, i felt really good within a week.
don't freak. take it a day at a time. and make sure your hospital bag is packed

Re: Not so good news... prayers please
First
Have you looked into different yoga type positions to help the baby turn on her own? And once she turns you can start to do pelvic rocks to get her to stay in position. There are a lot of natural ways you can entice her to flip.

Re: Not so good news... prayers please
I know it must be hard being that you have a young child at home but bed rest does really help. I have very short cervix as well and have been on bedrest since 28 weeks. I am now almost 33 weeks. It is tough but you can do it!!! Good luck to you!!!! Prayers are with you!

Re: Not so good news... prayers please
Well, considering my dd was head down at 33 weeks, 34 weeks, even 35 and 36 weeks, then turned breech, I'd say your little girl has time to turn. In the event that you do need a c-section, it'll be ok. It was really a very good experience for me, and I will have another with this baby. I also live in a colonial, so I understand the worry, btu it'll be ok. You can't control it, so just hope for the best
