Not sure if this is the right board but...
I have been thinking about the fact that labor and delivery can take hours upon hours, like I know I took 17 hours to be born (my poor mom), and I am worried about my dog all alone in the house. I will want my DH with me the whole time while I am in labor and I have no friends or family nearby.
Just another thing to worry me about pregnancy... and I am wondering what you girls thought.

I would suggest that when you do get preggo, maybe you can exchange numbers with one of your neighbors who can go and check on your dog when that time comes. I am confident that there will be someone more than willing to help.

My neighbor has already offered to take the dog when I go into labor. Do you have any neighbors who could help out?

i am 32 weeks pg and worry about my dog also. I plan to leave him with my mom as i get closer to delivery. If your dh isn't planning to stay with you overnight I am sure the dog will be fine by himself for a few hours

most hospitals dont allow DH's to stay unfortunately - if he comes in the morning maybe he can go home and then go back again (just to let the dog out and give water and food). are u far from the hospital???
eta - hopefully your labor wont be that long but in case just leave food and water down --if u really cant anyone to help

I am going to bring Sandy to my friends house close by.....she has a dog, Otis, that sandy can play with. When my friends comes to see me, she can leave Sandy at her house....

Re: Not sure if this is the right board but...
My dog is on the "hyper" side so I guess my sister will have to be on dog duty because she is used to him. I'm not PG yet but just preparing everything in my mind helps me get more excited to TTC. My friend delivered in Good Samaritan hospital and her DH was with her for at least 85% of the time but we arent that far from the hospital so if worse came to worst I guess DH would go home. I have never gone through labor pains before so my clear thinking right now cant be compared but I am guessing that I will be more comfortable knowing my dog is ok while I'm not with him.

They let them stay the entire time you are in labor. I think that's what she means.

No i meant after the baby is born - the next few nights they cant sleep there - i know Winthrop doesnt
eta - I SHOULD HOPE THEY ALLOW IT WHILE U R IN LABOR - THAT WOULD BE HORRIBLE!

Re: Not sure if this is the right board but...
My mom actually came and got my dog the next morning after she left right after I gave birth and she got to see DS. I arrived at 1am the hospital and had DS at 5am so the dog was ok. Roxy said with my mom for about 3weeks because I didnt have the energy to walk her and tend to her and DH was working half days the week he was home with me. Maybe give a set of keys to some you trust and that look after your pup.

Re: Not sure if this is the right board but...
It's something DH and I have already talked about (but have no solution) and we have LOTS of time. But we have no family here, and really no friends yet. We are getting a cat sitter for a week (through a pet sitting business) and if it's possible we may see if she's available last minute for when we need it. Otherwise, don't know. But our dog is old and kind of needy so it worries me.

Here's my honest answer. Don't worry about it! You don't need to worry about all the hypotheticals right now. You WILL figure it out when you have to because what other option do you have? Right? Don't stress, someone will cover for you!
