Not this time...(mini-update)
Temps took a nose dive this morning and based on the cramping I have been having all week, it is pretty clear that AF is soon to make an appearance - either today or tomorrow. Intellectually, I knew this was a possibility and I tried to remain as hopeful as I could for as long as my temps stayed up. Last night I was sad and I am sure that won't wear off too quickly, but I have to move on and get ready for the next step.
So here I am in preparation of a second cycle's IUI. The first one was unmedicated based on my needs (or lack there of). I would like to call my RE and ask if there is anything he may suggest for the next one. He may very well suggest to give it one more chance without any other interventions. Or he may offer me something else to help things along.
For those of you who had IUI's, what are the possible protocols for someone like me who basically has a solid 28 day cycle and does not have any issues with ovulation? I would like to know so I don't make one million phone calls back and forth to the doctor. I just want to know if I am really a candidate for other treatments even though I'd rather not put medications in my body unnecessarily. I needed to take things one step at a time at my level of comfort. I suppose I like to be in the know and make informed decisions from there. Thanks in advance for your suggestions. Just a little bit unsure.
Mini Update: Dr. R wants me to do another natural cycle and come in on either day 11 or 12 for a sonogram.

Re: Not this time...
They may try Clomid to make you O mor ethan one egg and increase your chances(which also increases your chance of multiples.) I don't know a lot about IUI

Re: Not this time...
Leslie, first, I'm sorry . But, don't give up!!
I had no issues with my cycle, or ovulation. They started me with Clomid, so that I could produce more follies and when that didn't work, I went on to injectables. The second round of injectables is what did it for me.
The meds in your case would be to give you a chance to produce more than one follie in the month, therefore increasing your chances.
Good luck!!

I'm sorry
I agree with the other posters. Try Clomid. More follies = better chances. When I got my BFP I had 4 follies hanging around. It didn't work out for me, but I still got pregnant. Again, I had other issues.
And please try not to be too sad. At least you were able to keep that cervix of yours open to even have the IUI!

Re: Not this time...
Thanks ladies. I was pretty realistic about my odds- they aren't much different than a natural conception. Im disappointed but not devastated as I haven't been going at this part of the journey too long. I will call the doctor later today when I have an opportunity. I just feel it is better to be proactive than have my head in the clouds. Thanks again. And Lauren is right, I am simply happy that I have possibilities - it makes a world of difference.

This is my guess too, based both on personal experience and that of friend's.

I'm sorry Leslie

Re: Not this time...
Aww, Leslie, I am so sorry. I know it can be so disappointing. I do not ovulate at all on my own, so i was put on Clomid, and Metformin. I would say, they will prob. try you on Clomid, just to up your follie count, and your chances. Best on luck with the next round.

Re: Not this time...
I'm so sorry, Leslie...I know how disappointing this is. As far as options, there are a lot of factors. The older you are the lower the quality of eggs, so that takes longer right there. Also, injectables increases your follicle quantity which would also give you more chances in each cycle.
I have learned that age is one of the biggest factors. The closer to 40, the more "bad eggs" and once you are more than 40 the level of good eggs drastically reduces each year.
