Not using toner after highlights (Brassyhighlights)

I have brown hair and asked to have a few highlights from the girl who does my single process. She put in a few and then toner and it was too subtle. When I went back again for another single process she added some more at no price, although quite a bit more. She wasn't using a toner this time as she thought it played a role it in being too subtle. They are very brassy now. I noticed from when I walked in the door. I hate to go back again as I have to go back in a few weeks again for single process. Also, there was no sink available when bell went off and it stayed on 10-15 minutes longer than planned. Was it that it was left on longer or the lack of toner? I am also reading that toner is needed for health of hair after the highlight process and not just for the color. Not sure if I should go back or wait for my next appt. I feel like I am always there. Does anyone know about the purple shampoo? There are two chunky pieces and I feel like if I can just shampoo that side with some kind of rinse, it will hold me through. Is there a certain brand to buy? Not really sure this is the way to go anyway. Just trying to save myself a trip before needing to go in a few weeks for single process.

Use a toning shampoo, usually called purple shampoo. The one I like best is Joico Color Endure Violet Shampoo but any of them will work. It will tone down the brassiness

ETS: I just saw you mentioned the purple shampoo. Use it once a week or so. It definitely works

Thanks so much! Is this something to get at Ulta or I have to go to Sally? Also, will it turn my brown hair that was not highlighted a purple tone?

I got my purple shampoo and conditioner at Sephora. I use DryBar brand but there are different brands. Will not turn your brown hair purple. My hair is almost white blonde in parts and it doesn’t turn purple (and my darker hair doesn’t turn purple either) - it just keeps any brassiness away. I use it 1-2 times a week.

Purple shampoo should help. I buy on amazon. It’s called “Milkshake”. Really cuts the brass.

To up the results, use the purple shampoo on dry hair. Google for videos

It will not turn your hair any kind of purple tone, don't worry.
You can get it at Ulta. I get the Joico brand.

On the chunky pieces that are really bad, put it on the hair while dry. Leave it on for at least 15 minutes then rinse it out.
If it doesn't work well do it again and leave it on longer
Doing it on dry hair ups the results

Thanks. I saw online about the dry hair application. I am due next week for single process so I will probably just deal with it until then and she can apply toner. I bought the spray color you apply to gray to spray on this bad piece on one side and it helped. Ugh...never have luck with highlights.

I have been using the Purple Shampoo and Conditioner for over 2 years now. I like Goldwell. I use it every time I wash my hair so 2-3 times a week. It has never turned my hair any shade of purple BUT I wait at least 4 days before washing if I have any kind of color done.

I was told that the first wash after a single process should not be the purple shampoo to be sure it doesn't pick up the purple shade. But just the first wash. I followed that for my last color which included a single process and highlights and had no issues.

Totally off question, but where do you get the Goldwell. I have been using a shampoo of their's and always got it at Ulta. They have stopped selling it. I called Goldwell and they said to find a salon near me that sells it. My salon is listed, only they don't sell the shampoos. They also warned me about purchasing on Amazon
