Now that I am looking into EVERYTHING....occasional toe and heel walking?
95% of the time DS walks flat footed. But I do notice sometimes he walks across the room on his tippy toes or tries to walk on his heels. Of course I looked it up online I have noticed this maybe a handful of times but of course over the last 2 days have been observing his every movement I went to the ped this morning to re-check his cough and spoke to him about everything and he is not concerned at all. He said DS has hit all his motor skill and fine motor skill milestones early. He may be doing it to experiment and play or b/c the floor is cold.

Re: Now that I am looking into EVERYTHING....occasional toe and heel walking?
DS is 18 months and does the toe walking. We all laugh at it because he is such a big boy that walking like a "ballerina" just doesnt seem to fit!
I never thought much of it as DS is right where he should be in terms of motor and verbal skills.
I think its just experimenting with something different that they didnt know they could do.
But I would bring it up to your therapists when they come to go over the plan next week.
I am sure its probably hard but try not to drive yourself nuts over analyzing DS's every move!
GL!

I would def bring it up.
the boy I watched was a toe walker. He has to wear braces to try and correct it. Due to walking on his toes, he has weak ankles and his tendons are shortening.
ETA: he was a constant toe walker though.

DS started walking very early...around 8 months holding on and was on his own around 11 mo. Never walked on his toes. Just something I noticed he does lately, but like I said it is so random and occasional that I think it is something he experiments with. I am definetely going to bring it up though.

DD was cruising around 8 1/2 months, took her first solo steps at 10 months, and was off and running by 11 1/2. She is now 18 months and just started the tippy toe thing. She does it every once in a while. I wouldn't worry.

Dylan is a toe walker. He was doing this about 5% of the time. The pediatrician wants us to pay attention to how often and see if it increases or decreases. She said that other than reporting back to her, I should really try not to think it. The amount he is doing it has already decreased but I'm still watching.

some kids toe walk bc they like the way it feels (sensory). josh did this for a bit but then stopped, his pt was never concerned.
if it's as infrequent as you say i wouldn't worry.

Re: Now that I am looking into EVERYTHING....occasional toe and heel walking?
I would mention to PED but if it's not constant during the day, if he is right on target on his development then I would not worry. Do you feel there is something else? Usually it's not "just" toe walking. If it is associated with "going nowhere" walking ie back and forth in a room with no real goal, etc... then I would look more into it.
