Now that you are a Mommy (those of you who had fears prior, got advice to those expecting)
I have these fears that I will not be a good mommy or that my maternal instincts will not kick in.
Did anyone else feel this way and if so, how have things changed?
TIA!

i had these fears throughout the entire pregnancy, but now at 12 days old, i feel, i know what my son wants/needs and how to soothe him...the first time i ever changed a diaper in my life was at the hospital w/my son - so i was terrified that i wouldn't know the first thing to do - it all works out. the only problem i'm having is how to stop him from peeing all over the place..lol...
don't stress, mother nature is wonderful - it'll be like second nature!

I had those fears too but honestly, you'll just do the best that you can. Sometimes I didn't know if I was doing the right thing but it was all I could think of at the time. Live and learn.
Mothers are always fearful of things. You will see that (unfortunately) you'll get a whole new set of fears. You just have to try to think positive about things.

I had sooo many fears, my dd is now 7wks. I have to admit tho I still have fears, but I take it day by day and Im getting more comfortable and confident. There are going to be alot of first time things that i fear like fever, vomit, feeding solids- but im sure once it happens the first time the second will be alot easier. Try not to stress.. youll be a great mom

Re: Now that you are a Mommy (those of you who had fears prior, got advice to those expecting)
Ok- here goes. I was a nervous wreck when we had DD. When we brought her home, I had no clue. She was colicky for the first 4-5 months and I had major nursing issues, so I felt like a big failure. Once she started to outgrow the colic and I switched to formula, life got so much better.
You will start to trust your instincts as you get a little more practice. For example, DD is 14 months, and over the weekend she seemed off to me. Dh said it was all in my head, well a trip to the ped showed a double ear infection.... you will learn to trust your instincts.
When you have the baby- if people offer to come over and help and you are comfortable with that, let them help. People will also bombard you with advice- take it or leave it and NEVER let anyone make you feel bad about your decisions.
It is a learning process and it gets a little easier each step of the way. It is important to surround yourself with a group of people who love you and support you.
Oh and if the hospital you are delivering at offer a New mothers group- I highly reccomend you join.
Also, we are ALWAYS here for you on this site.

DS is now 8.5mos old and i still worry if i may be a terrible mom. there will be so many trial you'll have to go through. how do you handle it?? heck if i knew! i'm not one with patience. but i am def learning. what i do know is that the love i have for my ds is nothing i've ever felt before.
there will also be some ppl out there who will tell you 'how to do things.' do what's only best for yoru baby and yourself.
you'll be great.

I was a wreck!!! Neither DH or I had been near a newborn or ever changed a diaper. Now I can change a diaper while nursing. I feel good about myself as a mom!!!
