Now that you are a mother- do you skimp out on your shopping?

I have was always a shopper- loved it! I could go for hours and do some serious damage. Ever since BFP- not only do I hate shopping (trying to loose weight), but I just don't enjoy it anymore. I never just buy something for me just because, and I always think about saving to buying things for DS. I have no problem shopping for DS or DH, but when it comes to me- I talk myself out of each purchase that I really don't need it.

Am I the only one?

I've always been a nutso shopper...since BFP, the craziness has transferred to DD rather than me...I end up going into a store to look for me and get driven to the "other side" and end up spending a small fortune on DD...Chat Icon

This is exactly me too! I spend mucho $$ on DD, but rarely shop for myself. That's ok, her stuff is much cuter than mine anyway Chat Icon

YES. Any money I get or have goes towards the boy! I bought myself a pair of Uggs for no reason at all, and STILL feel bad about it.

This is me too. I still like to spend $$ on myself Chat Icon but not on clothing until I have had this baby and have a body I am happy with. Until then I'll be spending all of my cash on DS and DD, it's so much fun to find stuff for them Chat Icon Chat Icon

Yes, absolutely.....I have plenty of clothes and stuff to get by for a long time. My boys are growing like sprouts, so I am always buying more clothes for them. And, to be honest, stuff they don't need like more toys Chat Icon

Re: Now that you are a mother- do you skimp out on your shopping?

Boy do I remember those days. I used to LOVE clothes shopping. Now... Ugghhh... there are so many reasons why I hate it:

1. Cant shop with a stroller. Its hard navigating the stores & trying to find an associate to unlock the handicapped accessible fitting rooms is a task.

2. Less money to shop with. It is me or have clothes gotten absolutely ourtrageous with the prices? Not to mention the quality is not as great.

3. less reasons to shop. I hardly go "out" anymore so, theres no reason to shop for dressy tops or cute heels. Chat Icon Chat Icon When I do have an event to attend, I actually hate shopping for it because.....

4. Nothing looks good on my anymore.Chat Icon After having a baby, my body isn't the same & I'm carrying extra weight. I feel like a fat heffa most of the time.

5. I hate the malls
I hate the crowds
I hate waiting on long lines to check out

This depresses me.

Chat Icon I need some retail therapy because I'm losing it. Chat Icon

I was a shopper before, and i still am....Not good....I work in the city and lunchtime can be dangerous! I do admit that its really not fun shopping at the mall with DS. You just can't spend the time looking and trying on when you have your DC with you.

I do not buy things for myself anymore - well ONCE a year, I will splurge with part of my annual bonus but aside from that, everything is for my kids Chat Icon

Sort of - instead of buying for myself and DH, I buy for DD.

Re: Now that you are a mother- do you skimp out on your shopping?

Yes... I was a huge shopper for myself. Love clothes and accesories. I'd have to say... I'm glad I have a son b/c I think if I had a girl I'd spend even more. I still get a lot for myself b/c I don't want to start getting lazy with myself, but it slowed down. If I'm at the mall it's... store for mommy then store for Mason... another store for Mason and a quick stop in at the shoe dept for myself... back to Mason. Chat Icon

YES!!! I LOVE to shop. Now that I have DS I can't go into a store without being more focused on the children's section. I can't imagine if I had a girl. The amount of money I spend on him is nuts. I feel like I wear the same thing every day but DS has more clothing then there are days in the season. It is nuts!

Re: Now that you are a mother- do you skimp out on your shopping?

While pregnant, I went to town buying new maternity clothes. I spent a fortune. Chat Icon

My shopping for me stopped once DS was born...and not just with clothes. I don't get my nails done anymore, getting my hair done has fallen to the bottom of the list, and I hardly buy any new beauty products unless it's absolutely necessary.

I'm lucky in that all of my pre-preg clothes fit, so I don't really NEED to buy anything for me anyway. I had an extensive wardrobe before, so I pretty much "shop" in my closet.

Same for me. I was doing all for my kids and realized I lost myself somewhere in that. I now I do for myself and the kids. I don't like to feel like a frump.

Re: Now that you are a mother- do you skimp out on your shopping?

not really... for a few reasons though, I'm a stay at home, so how much do i really need? I needed a lot more shoes and clothes and all that when I was working.
I have what I need, and if I need something then I go out and get it.
Do I go nuts and just shop cuz I love something? it depends... on a top maybe, on pants, no. I'm prego with dc #2 right now, and b4 this, i still didnt do it, more so bc I know i wanted to have at least one more child, and my body was gonna change again, so i didnt wanna torture myself. I'll splurge on myself again, after dc is born, and I can get back into shape. but I seriously have no problems splurging on ds and my dh.

I totally stopped shopping when I had DC. First bc of time / money, adn I knew I was going to have a second kid so why bother buying new stuff. I don't buy for DS either bc he gets everything he needs for bday and christmas. we only buy summer clothes. now I'm a SAHM so I feel like, I'll never really do much shopping since I'm home anyway!

same here. sad/funny thing is that I still have bunch of really nice clothes in my closet that have tags on them or the ones I only wore once or 2x ,from pre baby timesChat Icon so I don't really "need" anything (thank God I lost all the baby weight really quick ). as long as I don't feel frumpy I'm fine, but so far so goodChat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Now that you are a mother- do you skimp out on your shopping?

well, besides the fact that buying clothes right now is depressing....I have limited myself. I enjoy shopping, I do, I can't hide it however for example I was in Target yesterday and I've been dying to buy apples to apples,so I could stop borrowing it from my SIL but then I put it back b/c I spotted a CD of childrens songs and I thought that was a better use of my time, learning kids songs to sing to DS.....

I even used my old navy giftcard from christmas to get DS a few things...
