Now that you know... Update with ?
as a parent what you use and don't use. Would you after seeing a friend's registry tell them that some of the stuff they registered for is not necessary?
Ok so even though I am dying to tell her the wipes warmer and the microwave avent bottle sterilizer aren't necessary, I wont. But can I tell her things she missed while registering like the ultimate sheet saver and such???

Nope, since every baby is different. Some love the swing or bouncy, others hate it. KWIM?

ITA. Every mom is different too. I've seen reviews on here where one mom loves something and the other doesn't. I'd let them decide on their own. If they ask for advice or opinions, that's different.

Re: Now that you know...
I learned from this board as well as friends that every baby and every mommy is different, so I wouldn't neccessarily tell them something was 'useless' .. If I had something that I thought was fantastic that is not on their registry I might tell them what I found especially useful to me .... or if there was something on the registry I thought was bad quality I might say something .... like a stroller that broke after a few uses, etc...

If they asked me then I would tell them what I used but also let them know that every kid is different.

ITA. I actually did this recently when saw that a friend registered for something that I had major issues with as far as repeated breakage. I also let her know about some things that I found helpful that are not standard on the registry lists you get from the store.

I wouldn't, since Huggies work fine for many babies. I'd probably tell her to register for a few brands to try them out and find what works best for her baby.

We switched to Huggies since Pampers didn't work well with DC....
I'll let them know what worked for ME, and what MY DC did or didn't like, etc. I would never tell them NOT to get something (except maybe that possessed EVIL dog... )

Re: Now that you know...
I would tell her what worked for me, or something that I thought was a must have. I would also give tips. Like my friend asked me to help her register, so I did, while there I told her when looking at her stroller one of my bits of advice is the accessibility of the lower basket...she can do what she wants with it, which btw she registered for the 1 stroller which I feel has a really bad design. I also just noticed that she registered for a beautiful highchair that doesnt recline. I would tell her my advice is that reclining is an important feature because I know DS has been sitting in his highchair since he was 8 weeks old which he couldnt have done if it didnt recline, and now that he is eating the reclining feature is useful. But again I give her tips and dont tell her what is useless, etc.

Nope....while I can now say that there are things I would or would not get...I wouldn't tell someone that something they registered for was no worth it...to them it might be...we all have different needs and I don't want to sound like I know better...I think that all new mom's need a chance to figure some things out on their own...I feel the same about those baby classes.

Re: Now that you know...
I would if it were things like a wipes warmer or something I found to be completely ridiculous (the knee pads when your kids start to crawl).
I probably wouldn't phrase is as "completely unnecessary" but more along the lines of "I don't know that you'll get much use out of it." or "Are you sure you want your baby getting used to warm wipes? when you're out of the house, you won't have it."
Not for things like the swing, brand of bottles, diapers, etc. I agree with Cathy. What works for one baby, won't work for another.
eta. and anything without an OFF switch. I'd tell them to take it right off.

I agree with this, but there are some things that you find as a parent that you didn't know before like . . . outfits that close in the back instead of the front are a PIA when changing a squirmy baby. IMHO that is universal but until you're a parent you have no idea and just think the outfit is cute. OTH, pampers v huggies v luvs is individual to the baby (as is the swing bouncy seat love/hate relationship).

I personally preferred the ones that close in the back.... when DC was crawling away from me, I could snap/button up their outfit while they were in motion....

I guess you can mention them to her...like a "did you know about these things" - not a you need to get these things...she might be well aware of them but just not want them.
