NPR - I've been "let go"
I know this post doesn't belong here, but it's where I feel most comfortable posting. I was let go from my job today - not quite laid off b/c that would "look bad" for the firm. I'm just so sad, shocked (which I know I shouldn't be) and scared. I always wanted to be a SAHM, but it's not financially feasible for us. Being the (now former) breadwinner, I am nervous how we'll meet our student loan and mortgage obligations after my severance runs out. I'm just sick to my stomach over this.
Now I think we may have to cancel DD's 1st b-day party, which is next week. Maybe we'll do a small thing for immediate family and a very limited number of friends.
Anyway, I'm just feeling bad for myself and like a bit of a failure right now. Pity party over.

I am sorry you are going through this....but, in regards to your student loans, you can defer them for a while...that is one thing that is easy to do.

The other poster mentioned it, you can defer you student loans in hardship.

So sorry! DH and I have been scared for his job too, every week they let a few people go. Its very tough times. Hope you find something soon.

Hope you find a new job soon.
I've been there. Take the time to breath and then evaluate your financial situation with DH. Definitely file for unemployment and put the student loans on forbearance/deferment.
