NPR: What to bring to a 40th birthday party?
We are going to our first 40th birthday party celebration. I'm 34 and DH is 33 so this is our first 40th party we've been invited to.
My friends and I stopped giving gifts to one another once we hit our 30's. We will still treat one another to meals and spas but that is about the extent of it. If anything, a few friends get together for birthday meals at restaurants and the friends would treat the birthday friend.
This guy is a new friend. We met them this past summer. We like the family a lot but we've only hung out about 4x.
What should I bring to his 40th birthday party this weekend?
I was thinking a gift card but to where and how much?
Their family was over at our house for a playdate last week. His wife asked about some of our photos and I told her about photo deals I bought on certifikid (similiar to doodledeals in ny but for DC).
Would a certifikid photo shoot (I paid $99 for it) be a decent gift?
Would it be weird because it is a groupon type thing?

I have a 40th bday party this weekend too!!  We also don't do gifts with our friends anymore but we figured we will give him a nice bottle of liquor for his bday.........we know that won't go to waste!!!

That sounds really easy. Maybe we will bring a nice bottle of wine.

That's perfect. I feel like alcohol is always appreciated.......at least among my friends and family.
