NPR...OMG I just had a scare...but funny but now paranoid- long
So I'm playing with Kaitlyn in her playroom w/ the door closed b/c she is all over the place these days and DH just calls and all of a sudden I'm screeching at the top of my lungs. DH must have thought I was totally nuts... - well I am but that is another story for another day He was hysterical laughing when I told him what happened - he told me to call animal control - um yeah no thanks...
So what made me scream?
I see this black looking long thing (about the size of my hand from nose to end of tail) run under the door and along the wall - at first I thought (and I have NO IDEA WHY that it was a mouse) - NOPE it was a HUGE wall lizard!!!! I have NO idea how it got not only into my house, but upstairs to the second floor (up 1 or 2 flights of stairs depending on whether it came in the 1st floor or the basement and then past 2 cats).
So it is running all over the playroom - and I don't want to leave the room - and loose it or take the chance it will get out and run around the rest of the house. So of course DD thought it was cool and tried to chase it and climb after it - after about what seemed like a lifetime I was able to get the screen and window open it finally went over by the windows after about 15 mins and ran out - so I slammed the screen shut and the window -before it ran back in.
Okay so I'm very thankful that it is gone - but now I'm paranoid that it isn't the only one and I have no idea how it got in. We do have them outside in the bushes - but the only thing I can think of is it came in yesterday when DH did the lawn and left the basement door open - or today when at the end of our playdate DD and her friend both sat on our lawn and it maybe crawled into my diaper bag Either way it had to make it past the cats and up the stairs.

Do you live in Franklin Square by any chance? I do and we are INFESTED with lizards. Lizards and bunnies!! It's a friggin zoo in this town.
I tell ya, we NEVER use our front door because we have a gaggle of lizards that live in between the stones of my stoop!!

We once found one in my bathtub! I had to call my father who came over and poured some bleach down my drain. We (he) wound up catching it in a soup container and we left it outside. Sucker lived in that container for WEEKS!
I hope that was your last lizard encounter!!

Right next door in Garden City South. - You might be right near me!
NO NO NO don't tell me this - they are cute and nice to look at OUTSIDE - think screaming and terrified mommy when they are inside my house - and to think I thought I was scared of spiders - now I have to add Lizards in my home to my list???? -
Wait it came in your bathroom drain???? Uh oh do I have to worry about that here?

 OMG! I think I would have cowered in the corner and cried.
I'm told that F. Square DOES have alot of lizards but the only ones I see are those little green geckos in the garden.

Yes...you are my neighbor! And alas...you are neighbors to our enemy, the lizard! 
It is rumored that the lizards joined the communties of Franklin Square and Garden City SOuth about 20 years ago when a truck was making a delivery to Garden World on Franklin Avenue.
There supposedly were hundreds of lizard eggs aboard the trucks, which had hatched and reproduced thousands of times over over the past 2 decades.
Old timers SWEAR this is a true story.
I was told by my 95 year old neighbor who is a native Franklin Squarer.
So gross....

I hear that they were set loose by a school in Garden City where a class was keeping them as pets.

I SOOOOO wanted to BUT - it came into her playroom under the closed door - so I was more paranoid that it would get lose and be running around the entire house if I left it - than being locked in a single room with it. DH doesn't get home until late every night so it would have been a long wait...

I know from growing up that they are all over the garden city community pool. I had heard something about a truck too - but that it overturned near the pool... sounds like there are a million stories about them...Racheeee I think you are probably talking about Waldorf School which is right in that same pool/Garden City/Garden City south area. I heard that one too...who knows the real story.
