nrthshgrl and anyone else that is a digital camera pro
Are the memory cards for digital cameras universal? I'm selling my cybershot (absolutely hate it) and didn't know if I should give them the memory stick too or save it for the new camera?

No, I am not Barbara but I can answer. They memory for each camera can be different, even among the same brands (i.e., Canon). I used to have a Canon PowerSHot G3 and went to a SD400 and had to but a new memory card. Some take memory sticks as you have mentioned. When we sell our old digital camera's, we always give the memory card/stick with them.

My first camera used and XD card which is more expensive than a lot of cards. Typically Fuji and Olympus cameras take the XD card.
My Kodak and my Nikon both take the SD card, which I can always find on sale and is pretty inexpensive. The Cannon Im looking at also takes the SD card.
Sonys take a memory stick. I dont know what others do.
If your researching online it will tell you what the camera takes. Or if you're in the store and not sure ask the sales person

I am Barbara but not a pro for sure. Different camera take different types of memory. If you've invested a significant amount of money in a memory card and are buying a camera that uses the same type, I'd keep it.
I don't want to mislead you guys. I don't know much about photography - the last class I took was in high school.

What are you talking about........ you are a total pro.....the pics you take are amazing. I wish I could take at least one good pic....I'm still trying to figure out how to use the camera.
