Nrthshgrl!- SLR camera thread- Now w/Pics- need your help Barbara!
I got my digital SLR the day before Thanksgiving as my Christmas/Birthday present.
I think of you every time I use it!
The pics are incredible.

I got the Nikon D50. I definately want a new lens though that can do telephoto- the lens it comes with is really basic.

So normally how far away are you when you're photographing them? I have a Sigma 70-300, but I feel like I need to be so far away in order to use it, which renders it useless indoors.

Yeah, I'm in the market for some new lenses and I'm hoping a new one can make my photos look as good as Barbara's!

Speaking about cameras, I got my x-mas present early too. DH got me the Sony Alpha DSLR-A100 10.2 MP and so far I am loving it!!!

Hi-jacking the thread!
I have the Nikon D50 and love it. I have 2 lenses for it. 28-80 mm and a 70-300 mm. Barbara has got me to use the 300 mm lens more often. It took me a while, but I am getting the hang of it!

To answer your question about distance...
Whenever Barb is taking my belly pics (same spot every month) she stands about 13 feet away and zooms in a bit. I'm by my living room window and she's near the entrance to the diningroom
It was about the same when we were outside.
Now I just wish I had mine. I was supposed to get it on Oct 1st... my fault though... too busy.

I bought a used SLR off of Craigslist, a Canon EOS 300D, and I love it. Its great for a first timer and good for practice. I've already gotten some books on photography from the library to help me out. Eventually I'll get a nicer one but this will work for now.

Finally have a minute to post some pics- I definately need your help Barbara to make them better...
Close-ups come out great on the portrait setting
But distance pics look blurry( this was done on the timer)

I agree with Barb. For the group shots use the landscape setting and the 55mm lens, for portraits and closeups use the 300mm.
