Nursery dilemma - opinions please! UPDATE

So, we have two bedrooms and a full bath on the second floor of our house (master is on the first floor). When we moved in, we made the larger room into a guest room, we painted the walls a pale lavender and the carpet is a light gray. We had always planned to make the smaller of the two bedrooms the nursery, so we didn't touch that room - it needs to be painted and new floors/carpet put in. We were waiting to get pregnant, decide if we'd be team green, etc. before doing that room.

Dilemma - we are expecting twins. The smaller room is just not going to be big enough for a nursery for two babies, so we have to use the larger room - it is like 2x bigger than the smaller one and would be more than enough room for the twins. We are team green. We'll still re-do the smaller room and make that into the guest room, but now I have a nursery with lavender walls and what if we have two boys? DH REFUSES to repaint the walls in that room b/c he said I should never have picked that color in the first place, we should have done something neutral, etc. This is a big fight now.

Should I even care about this? Do lavender walls and a light gray carpet really matter in the long run even if we have two boys or a boy and a girl? Can I just make the rest of the room neutral and call it a day? Or should I really push DH to repaint it.

Opinions please! Thanks.

UPDATE:
So I called DH and asked if we had any leftover scraps of the gray carpet. He asked why, and I said so I could bring it with me when I go to pick out the new wall color Chat Icon .

Long pause...big sigh...he says well if we have to repaint the walls we might as well rip out the carpet and put in hardwood floors like we talked about for the nursery in the first place. Chat Icon Chat Icon I love him. I was hoping he'd come around in time but I didn't think it would be this quick. Now I get the nursery I wanted! Hmm...what else can I ask for? J/K. Thanks everyone! I'll be sure to post pics!

Get him to repaint it. If he refuses just go out and buy the paint color you want and call some family members to help you paint... then he'll feel bad and help. Chat Icon

This was my opinion too!! Go get the paint yourself and start doing it. He'll help - even if it is out of guilt!!!

LOL. Thanks girls. Now what color do I do with the gray carpet? Ugh I am kicking myself right now for picking those colors.

Re: Nursery dilemma - opinions please!

I would go and buy either a nice very light grey paint or even a green-grey color and start it myself.......he'll jump in!!
Really, how would you have known you were going to get PG with twins and need the bigger room?

Re: Nursery dilemma - opinions please!

I intentionally put grey carpet in all the rooms upstairs. DS has grey carpet, DD has grey carpet, etc. Grey is awesome because it goes with EVERYTHING. It works with pale blue, pale pink, greens, dark colors, etc. You never need to change the carpet to go with whatever color the walls are. Even as teenagers, if DD wants hot pink, goth black, or camo, it still works. If DS wants superman colors, Hulk green, Transformers colors, etc, grey still works.

I would get zero VOC paint (Don't get "regular" paint with all the toxic fumes! Chat Icon ) and repaint the room if you want. It's much easier to paint now, before there's furniture and DC in there....

Sorry, he's being stubborn. Chat Icon

I would sit tight for now and call his bluff - let him think about how he'd feel having two little boys in a purple room Chat Icon

Re: Nursery dilemma - opinions please!

Grey is tough. IMO it goes with either pink or blue, but it's hard to find a neutral color that it suits. Maybe just paint the walls white? Or I'd go with a pale blue because you can get away with that for either a girl or a boy.
