Nursery Location Question
Hi Everyone!
Quick question ... Our house has one BR downstairs (our current BR) and a bath. Upstairs we have 2 BRs only. We're concerned to have a newborn on the second floor (even with the doors open, I'm concerned about hearing her so I know we would need a monitor). Is having a baby on a different floor a terrible idea? I would gladly move our current BR to the 2nd floor but the bedroom is *much* smaller, not sure if our furniture would fit and we would have to go downstairs to use the bathroom. Any ideas and advice are appreciated!!

I really don't know how to vote. I personally would not like the nursery on a different floor. For me, that was one of the requirements when we were house hunting. Just the thought of having to trek up and down the stairs several times a night made me ill. When Marron was a newborn, I didn't even get out of bed when she woke in the middle of the night. I had the bassinet right next to my bed and all of the stuff I'd need during the night on my nighttable. I would just reach over and scoop her up, change her, feed her, and put her back to sleep. I also like being able to pass her room and pop in on my way to bed. I'd also be worried about carrying her downstairs if I needed to if I were groggy and tired. I can understand that the bedroom upstairs is much smaller, but for me, I think I would prefer that. You have to figure that when the baby is a newborn and you are having to get up every couple of hours they will probably be in the room with you, so it may not be so bad, and by the time you move them into a regular crib, the nighttime wakings may only be 1-2 per night so you may not mind it too much. Just try to think about how it will be having to go up and down to care for the baby in the middle of the night versus if you can be comfortable in the smaller room.

I would def invest in a video monitor. All of my bedrooms are upstairs so I can't really comment.
