Nursery question

When did everyone start/finish their nurseries?? I'm not sure if I should start mine now, or wait a little longer. Oh and how long did it take to finish too?

Re: Nursery question

We started it 2 weeks ago. DH primed the walls (which took 6 friggin coats of primer). Last week he put the base layers of paint. This coming weekend we will put the texture layer of paint on & then we will white-wash the wood in the room.

ETA that is all we can do until the area rug & the fabric for the curtains comes in. Also I am still looking for a shade that I feel comfortable with. Right now there are 3 windows in the baby's room, and they have blinds. I am not a fan of the dangling string, nor the slats, so I am looking for one of the older fashioned style.

Re: Nursery question

I'm at 25 weeks and DH just painted it this past weekend and we'll be putting up the border this coming weekend. We picked out furniture from Behrs a few weeks ago and it is due to be delivered in April.

Re: Nursery question

I was a little superstitious, so we waited until I was almost 30 weeks to begin the nursery...we ordered our furniture at about 26 weeks (they told us 12 weeks to receive)...we finished the painting and new crown moulding yesterday...I think I am definintely in the minority though!

Re: Nursery question

We've been doing ours in stages.

When we moved in last year we painted one of the spare bedrooms green and the other yellow... If I was having two boys or two girls I would have repainted but green works for one of each.

We bought the cribs early because we were worried about delivery. They were a good deal from BRU on-line.

Dressers... we had in another room and just moved them in this week. The finish is the same as the cribs.

Area rug... picked up a few weeks ago from Home Depot, plain beige rug.

Glider... I got last fall at a baby gear sale.

Shelves... DH put up this week

Bedding, curtains- I washed and made up the cribs the day after my shower a few weks ago.

Closet... I've been organizing as I get clothes.

Changing table on lower level... bought baskets a few months ago and started organizing gradually.

I ordered a border a few weeks ago but it hasn't come yet. I've contacted the company and if I don't get it in the next few days I'm cancelling the order.

We are all ready to go (week 33)Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Nursery question

I'm 33 weeks now and we painted about 4 weeks ago, got the carpet about 2 weeks ago, put up a closet organzier a week ago, and the room is now a complete mess of boxes and baskets of stuf from my shower which will take another 2-3 weeks to sort through.

Re: Nursery question

I started mine the minute I found out I am having a girl - at 16 weeks. It takes a long time to get everything together, so I would start as soon as possible!

Re: Nursery question

We did ours early only because the furniture came in earlier ( Much ) then expected.

We cannot paint ( we rent)...so really we just cleaned out the room. Put together the crib and furniture, got the rug.

And now are focusing on Window treatment etc....

Im only 24 weeks.

Re: Nursery question

With my daughter, I started it around 12 weeks preggo and finished it at about 15 weeks....

Since we are using the same bedding and had all the furniture, all I had to do this time around was paint (we switched rooms so both kids could fit) and I did that in January when I was about 30 weeks I guess...

Re: Nursery question

I'm 28 weeks and I've just started empting the room bit by bit.

Every weekend I get rid of another big thing from the room and organize something else.

If I try to do too much I get overwhelmed.

The furniture is coming mid-March, but I want the room completely emptied first and then I'm going to do some touch-ups and get the rug steam cleaned.

Re: Nursery question

I am 23 weeks and we already painted and built the closets this weekend.

We ordered new closet doors and they will be coming in three weeks.

The carpet is being installed tomorrow.

I called on the furniture today and they said it should be in mid March.

My aunt is making us window treatments so I'm not sure when they will be in.

I want everything completely done by my shower on April 22nd.

Re: Nursery question

I am 25 weeks and we started about 2-3 weeks ago. We painted in 2 weekends (I did stripes) and now tonight we are finally putting up the border. We hung the ceiling fan this past weekend. Tomorrow the carpeting is going in. I will get the crib over the weekend. We have the dresser already in another room. I need to order blinds, and then hang the valances and I should be pretty much ready by the end of next month - depending on how long the blinds take to come in.
