Nursing moms.... a baby who bites

How in the world do I get this to stop...????

Brayden is teething, and whenever he nurses; he bites down with a death clamp and then pulls his head away from my body... (OWWWW!!!)

I have "yelped", I have said no firmly, I have taken him off the breast....

NOTHING is working...

Seriously... my favorite feeding was the night time feeding... it was our quiet time together... and Ive been pumping and giving him a bottle, because I dread the pain...

PLEASE help!

Re: Nursing moms.... a baby who bites

I practically dropped DD once when she bit me and that kind of stunned her. I told her no a lot. I once cried so hard that she stopped.

No advice, just support.

No advice either, other than what you've mentioned is all I've heard.

DS just got his first tooth and I'm not feeling it yet but I wanted to reply in support also. Chat Icon

OH I remember that when nursing DD. I just used to be consistent, I would keep taking her off and telling her "no". It took a few times but she eventually got the idea.

Re: Nursing moms.... a baby who bites

The first time that happened to me I jumped and yelled so loud DD started crying. The second time I had NO reaction whatsoever. The third time, again, no reaction whatsoever. There wasn't a fourth time.

I ended the nursing session. She learned right away-- you bite = no milk!

Ugghhhh.... need to figure out how to have no reaction...I swore when I looked down at my nipple, there would be blood everywhere (of course there wasnt)

It seems like its the worst before let down happens... once the milk starts flowing, he focus more on eating... However those first few minutes, its like he uses me as a teething ring....Chat Icon

Re: Nursing moms.... a baby who bites

was in shock the first time and nearly threw him across the room.

noticed he bit when getting tired or not really eating anymore, just hanging out, would take him off before biting occurred.

Re: Nursing moms.... a baby who bites

No real help here. I would say "NO!" loud and firm and take the breast away and he would not get it back until it was time for another feeding.

I'd say he only did it 3 times and it stopped forever.

Ok- this is exactly what I think is going on...

I work FT and DS goes to daycare...

He eats 4-5x's/day...
The last feeding of the day, is the feeding Im home for and is the feeding he is nursed for...

All other feedings are EBM in a bottle...

I dont think he NEEDS this nursing session... I dont think he is STARVING for it...BUT this is OUR time, and OUR routine...

So honestly...ending the nursing session, isnt really going to do anything for me- since he isnt necessarily "hungry" at that time...

KWIM????

This weekend will be the true test..... since he wont be getting bottles, and will be nursing because he is actually HUNGRY- rather then "sleepy"....

See he always did this clamp down and turn his head thing (ouch!) but he never had teeth...so I dealt with it...

I really hope he is just trying out his new chompersChat Icon Chat Icon
