Nutella Question - UPDATE at bottom
I have a container that I opened a couple of months ago and its been sitting in my cabinet ever since.
I noticed today it has these little balls in it now. They are everywhere, not just the top.
Does this normally happen? The expiration date is August 2013.

Re: Nutella Question
I'm not sure what you mean but it does dry out after a while. It's still good but doesn't spread as easy. Doesn't happen in my house though. We make sure to eat it quickly
eta: never seen balls though

Re: Nutella Question
It looks like someone took a box of nerds and swirled it into the nutella. The little balls are white-ish though.

Re: Nutella Question
Hmmm I'd probably not use it. I've never seen that happen. Then again, like the pp, mine never lasts long enough for it to go bad.

Re: Nutella Question - UPDATE
Update-
Just in case anyone is curious, I contacted Nutella and they sent the following email (I'm just pasting in the important parts, not the whole thing)
"Thank you for contacting us regarding our Nutella® hazelnut spread. Depending on the temperature the product was stored at the oils and sugar can separate and then solidify giving it the appearance of the white spots throughout the spread. This does not make it harmful to consume.
Once Nutella is made it is good for a total of 1 year. Nutella is good for up to three-four weeks after the sell by date (the sell by date is printed around the lid of the jar) after that it is then expired. "
Here is the pic I took before I threw it out. Too bad I threw it out before I got a response. Actually, looking at the pic I don't think I could have eaten it anyway.
