NWR: About Chron's Disease

It's not confirmid yet that I may have this, but my Doctor thinks I might. All this week I have been having really bad stomach pains (on my lower right side) and it feels like someone had punched me really hard in the stomach, the pain is horrible. I have an appt with the GI on the 17th of March but if the pain does not go away or gets worse I will go to the er.

Does anyone know the symtoms to this disease?
any informtion would be great.

Thanks Lina

Re: NWR: About Chron's Disease

oh no...I hope you don't have that Chat Icon

it's an autoimmune disease where your immune system attacks your intestines... similar to other autoimmune diseases, there are flare-ups, better times, and many eventually need surgery....

here's a website with info

I hear you.... I had an autoimmune disease years ago where my immune system was attacking my skin like something awful... (mercifully, it was NOT a chronic condition... it went away Chat Icon) At the time, I was on some horrible medications.... it was a rough couple of years....

autoimmune diseases are simply awful... I really hope you find out you don't have another one! Chat Icon

Well will see, I have an appointment on March 17th and I guess he'll want to schedule an endonoscopy (sp) but if it gets worse I am going to the ER.

My son also has an autoimmune disease he has Vitiligo (patches of white skin) he is 17 years old and i feel so bad for him (he has it on his face and hands)

Re: NWR: About Chron's Disease

I worked for the Long Island Chapter of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation for 4+ years. They are a wonderful organization and can offer information and support. They have support groups, educational programs and all different kinds of fun events.

You can look to their website for information on the disease and where to call for more info: www.ccfa.org

Feel better and good luck!

Re: NWR: About Chron's Disease

not to be gross but do you go to the bathroom alot? is there alot of mucus? my DH is actually going through ALOT of testing right now to see what his issues are. he's always had i guess you can say "pooping problems" but it's 100 times worse now. he doesnt eat all day until around 11:30 at night because the second he puts food in his system, his stomach reacts. it's taken over his life completely. he had an endoscopy and a colonscopy at the same time, they still have no clue but this was one thing they said it could be.

is there certain foods that flair up your problems?

Re: NWR: About Chron's Disease

No I don't go a lot. I just have really bad stomach pains on my lower right side and it seems to get worse everyday. I try to watch what I eat I am on WW but I also try to keep a journal so when I go to the GI, I am prepared. Chat Icon

Re: NWR: About Chron's Disease

I've handled several disability cases for people with Crohn's. It seems to me that each of their illnesses took a different course and their symptoms were not completely alike. I say the same thing about cases involving lupus, MS and many other illnesses. I should also say that not everyone with these illnesses becomes disabled. It's so hard to compare symptoms and some people do better than others. I hope you get some answers and a solution soon.

Re: NWR: About Chron's Disease

I would call the doc back and tell them that you need to be seen asap.

If you don't get satisfaction with that doctor, I can recommend mine.

Sorry you are suffering, Hopefully soon you will get some answers.

If you have Crohns it's not the end of the world.

I am a fully functioning crazy busy person who happens to have crohns.

There are many resources out there to help. Getting diagnosed may not be so easy. Crohns manifests itself in so many ways.

Please feel free to reach out to me if you need someone to "talk" to.

Re: NWR: About Chron's Disease

Good for you. Re-arrange your schedule if necessary to get in to see the doctor. I can't imagine waiting 10 days if you are flaring.

There are many treatments you can try and many ways to get an idea of what's going on. Get the tests done that they recommend and let me know what happens.

There is medicine out there that can really make a difference.

I hope it's not Crohns but at the same time I hope they figure out what it is so you can feel better.

I don't know much about the disease, but I have heard of people who have controlled their symptoms with diet. I wish you the best Chat Icon

Re: NWR: About Chron's Disease

My Aunt has this, unfortunately she caught it very late in life and has a colostomy bag. She can't eat many types of food and had some very bad episodes leading up to all of this. It can be very painful, but monitored with medication esp. if you catch it early I believe.

Re: NWR: About Chron's Disease

My DH has it and has had it for a long time. He goes to a very good doctor in Manhattan, He is one of the best in the country and has written numerous books about the disease. He was the one who finally diagnosed and treated my DH after years of running around to many different doctors and almost getting a surgery. Dh has been in remission since he started seeing this dr. The problem is that this dr doesn't take insurance and he is VERY expensive, but after what my DH went through for year this dr is worth every penny. If you'd like more info FM me and I'll give it to you.
I hope you feel better soon.

Also check out the ccfa website someone gave you above.
