NY State Disability Question - for those who have other coverage through their companies

Do you apply for NY disability as well? I'm very baffled, as is our leave administration department, as to whether I am supposed to apply or not.

Our documentation states that our disability payments will be reduced by the amount that we're entitled to from NY State. Are we not entitled since we have separate disability insurance? Or are we entitled and then our separate insurance is reduced by the amount we receive from NY?

I called the leave dept and they had no clue as to what needs to be done - they have never seen this happen before.
