I'm not sure. I live in Ronkonkoma and teach in Manhattan so I'm not looking forward to the commute but I really want to get back. I'm worried about my students and their families. I  they are safe and have enough food.

I think it would be wise to keep closed until Monday so everyone who was severely affected can have time to have everything cleared. I honestly think he might open schools in areas that were not severely affected. However my thoughts are that until power is restored to lower manhattan and the schools being used as evacuation shelters are clear he won't open them.

I don't know what to think either. The Rockaways, Howard Beach, Lower Manhattan, parts of Brooklyn are so badly damaged, I wonder how he COULD open schools. What about schools without power? Schools being used as shelters?
This storm was so devastating for so much of our city that I am not sure it is possible

I'm just wondering how I'm going to get there if the LIRR isn't running. Also, if I can't get in will I be docked my days? Still no power/ hot water/ heat at my place. We are at my parents in west Hempstead they just got power about an hour ago

I'm wondering the same thing. I think it all depends on if the MTA can restore train service. But I'm also concerned about school buses navigating streets with down trees and stuff.

Especially since he made principals go in today...I think we are next tomorrow.

He may have had principals go in so that he can get an efficient report on conditions around each school. With no power in many schools, no MTA for students AND teachers, and so many schools used as shelters I honestly think it makes the most sense to remain closed through Monday. But we'll see.

I think that would be ridiculous. I live in rockaway work in Manhattan my home is flooded cars are destroyed so since I cant get to work I should use my days. So unbelievably rude I could see bloomberg doing that

I have a feeling this will be the case, but I will be taking the days. My family lives on the Jersey shore and we are going down there to bring food, gas and water.

Even if some staff can get in, there will be so many absences, it will be crazy. My school combines classes even when only a few teachers are absent.
