NYC DOE teachers up for tenure question
If you are a NYC DOE teacher and up for tenure this year, the DOE is making us prove why we think we should get tenure through portfolios. What are you putting in your portfolio?
I am a NYSAA teacher, what should be in mine?
TIA!

I have tenure but our union rep told me to Thank God I have it. She said portfolios are needed of teacher and student work, as well as, recommendations from parents.

Re: NYC DOE teachers up for tenure question
I am tenured but two teachers in my department are not. They have to have something like a 75 page binder. It has to include data, professional development, why you deserve tenure, student work, etc.....

any observation, letter from an administrator, etc., you have should include your own reflection is what they are telling our teachers up for tenure to do

Re: NYC DOE teachers up for tenure question
I am not sure what NYSAA is- but I know that teacher data reports will be included for grades 4-8 ELA and math teachers. There was a story about a woman in the NY Times the other day who is apparently an excellent teacher- and all her kids got 3s and 4s- but because she didn't make the projected targets, she is only in the 7th percentile citywide and now her tenure is at risk, and if the Flanagan bill is ultimately passes, ending LIFO, she is out.

Re: NYC DOE teachers up for tenure question
I am not a NYC teacher. However, I would put a students assessment portfolio and examples of student work that are consistent with their IEP's.
