NYC Hotel help! Affordable and similar to hostels, I guess.
A distant relative is visiting NY from Austria. What are some places she can stay while she is here? She has her first few days planned out and she will probably stay with me for a few days, but where else can she go? She def. wants to museum hop, see off off broadway shows, etc. Soooo, aside from hotels/hostels/etc, any suggestions for this girl?
Please don't move this to travel.

How many stars does she need the hotel to be?? I ask cause DH had us stay at the Pennsylvania hotel across the St. From Penn.. I personally didn't like it, but its 3 stars and cheap... It just needs updating

Firstly...I'm sure she can get tix and stuff herself, but Jenn...any tips you can give me to extend to her about seeing shows?
And as for stars...hmmm, I have no idea. Considering she'll start her visit at a hostel like place, I'm sure a lot of places will be a step up. She's a college student taking a semester off, so I'm sure funds are limited but I don't want her in a crack house either, you know

Actually, there are a bunch of hostels in Manhattan.

Tell her to check out the Gershwin Hotel. I stayed there in December and I think it'll be perfect for her. Prices from probably $49 a night to $300 a night. We stayed in the superior for about $129 a night.
It's very artsy. Most of the people that were staying there were traveling from Europe. The rooms are small, but it was perfect for what we needed. It was clean, so that's all that mattered to me. The sex museum is right next door, and its walking distance to the shopping on 5th avenue.
