NYC Hotels
My friend and his wife are coming to NYC for a long weekend at the beginning of June. They want to stay somewhere that isn't insanely expensive, but still good quality. In terms of location, he said near, but not in Times Square. The only two places I've ever stayed are the Marriott Marquis and the Waldorf Astoria, so I'm no help.
Any recommendations? TIA!

There is a W hotel on 39th and Lex. not in Times Square, but very close like he wanted.

Affinia Dumont - East 34th between Lex and 3rd
Affinia 50 - East 50th at Third
The Benjamin - East 50th at Lex
I used to do the public relations for all three hotels and can tell you more about them in depth if you'd like.
