NYC Restuarant Rec
DH and I are going out to celebrate the night I defend my dissertation. I want to try something new. Any suggestions? We're looking to go somewhere on the west side, preferably upper. We want it to be nice but not ridiculously expensive.

I''m not looking for something in particular. I'm open to anything.
So far I am considering Calle Ocho as Blu-Ize recommended.
I've been to Isabella's and Ocean Grill and liked them but kinda wanted to try something new.
Any suggestions?

I totally second Calle Ocho! We went there for a friend's birthday and it was great!

Re: NYC Restuarant Rec
Calle Ocho is good. They have great Mojitos.
Nice Matin is also very nice. Its Provencial French food. 79th and amsterdam.
For low key medeterranian I love Monaco- 80th and Amsterdam. Not so fancy but great food.
Sarabeths is also great. I only ate dinner there once but they have the most amazing brunch. Its American food. 81st and Amsterdam.
Italian: so many places. I love Parpadella on 76th and Columbus.
Mexican: its far up but Mama Mexico is the best. 102nd and Broadway. They have about 15 different margarita flavors, they make guacamole in front of you, there is a Mariachi band and the owner walks around with a bottle of tequila to pour down your through. For more upscale Mexican- Gabriella's on 93rd and Columbus. Amazing tequila bar.
Fusion: Citrus on 76th(ish) and Amsterdam. Its delicious. They have sushi and so much more.
Natural food: Josies on 75th and Amsterdam.
Hope this helps!

I second both of these recommendations (well, I guess I'm third-ing Citrus ). I went to Citrus after I took the bar exam and had MANY tasty drinks there. I also love Rosa Mexicano. The pomegranate margaritas are wonderful, as is the chilean sea bass and enchiladas de jaiba
