NYC Teacher call backs?
HI All,
I applied to be a teacher everywhere being long island to the NYC schools. For those of you who have ben there how long does it take to get a call back for an interview usually? Is is easy to get in? I teach at NYIT Vocational I. Program, for young adults with severe to moderate learning disabilites and ready to move on to a district to make money. Here we do not make much we are here because we like it. Any info would be great.
Thanks!!
Nicole

It is a common misconception that it is "easy" to get a job in NYC especially in a good school. It is far from easy, except that they usually one call you for one interview.
They should be calling soon. Budget votes on LI are in May and NYC budgets are being worked on now ( I believe ). People will also start telling schools whether or not they are coming back shortly.
Good luck.

I second this! Have you put your resume online at the NYC website. Have you sent resumes to individual schools?
Unfortuntely in NYC they are also cutting back due to budget cuts so some schools may not be hiring but rather excessing this year...Don't give up hope yet you still have lots of time!

It couldn't hurt...try and decide what areas you want to work in and send your resumes to individual schools. Also look on NYC DOE website and see if there are anymore job fairs...not sure if there are anymore Good Luck!

NYC does a LOT of job fairs in the summer too! They usually advertise in the NY times Week in Review section.

Forgot to update this, here goes:
I got the job.
There is a meeting next month to discuss schedules, but I do know the following information:
1. it pays 35 to 40 an hour 2. It runs Mon to Thursday 9:30 to 3:10 with a 1 hour break at 12:30. You can work as much/as little as you want 3. It is an enrichment program, not summer school.
Seems promising. I am holding out for local schools as well, but we shall see
