NYC Teachers Forest Hills High

I have an interview on Tuesday. I am currently working in Corona.

Any insights on changing schools in NYC or working in Forest Hills High School would be appreaciated.

I don't teach H.S. but I know that Forest Hills has a good reputation

not what it used to be though. I believe you used to be able to get in from

other zones by test only. Its a really nice area and there are tons of security

and police everywhere. Good luck on the interview!

I don't know much about the Forest Hills schools but I know the area is very nice!


See if you could do a search online for ratiings, etc

The area is awesome and it is one of the better high schools in the city. i say go for it!

I went there to grade the test. That school is huge! I love the different times too. GOOD LUCK!

A few of my friends went to that high school. Granted, it was many years ago, but it was a great school. I believe it still is. Good luck!

Its supposed to be a wonderful school. It's HUGE - 4400 kids (!) on multiple sessions. Class sizes are large. But the quality of student that goes there is thought t be a cut above the standard DOE kid. Graduation rates and college attendance rates are very high.

hey ladies

so the interview went very well. I sat with her for about an hour. We talked about everything from what I would be teaching to how the school runs. She said "you'll see. It is confusing the first week or two but then you will get it." So I left feeling very confident.

She said she had a few more interviews and that I would hear by Thursday or Friday at the latest.

I still havent heart anything. I emailed a thank you letter because of her short time frame. What do you think? I really want this job!

Hmm, seems like you have every reason to be confident about the job based on what she said at the interview. I have no answers as to why you didn't hear back from her yet.......

UPDATE

So she said she wanted to offer me the job, but now due to budget problems the position is dissolved. I am miserable. I really do not want to go back to my school.

Plus, I do not know if she is just saying budget cuts to cover up for not reallly wanting to hire me. Who knows :(

I am so sorry! I would believe the budget idea. I also think their is a chance that the spot could open up again. Don't give up yet!

I would also believe the budget cut idea.

The fact that she wanted to hire you is a BIG deal! I would be persistent and contact her again and to see if she can recommend you to another school in the system where your services are needed! I wouldn't give up on this so fast! At the worst, she can say no!! But at least see if you can use her as a connection!


When I was student teaching, I asked how one of the teachers in the school got her position and she said she was actually interviewed by a principal in a different school who in the end wasn't able to hire her, so he recommended her to the school she ultimately ended up at! So, I know it IS possible!

Thanks girls! I will stay in touch with her. I expressed my disappointment and told her to keep me in mind in the future.

I am just dreading September now :(
