Nyc Teachers- GHI question
I'm high risk. I've been getting sonos once a week. Ive been paying 30 each appointment (15 copay for dr, 15 copay for sono).
I just called GHI to go over everything and they said if you're pregnant, you DO NOT have to pay the copays every time. They said one time for all your prenatal care is enough. Is that right??? I thought the 30 every week was insane, but I didn't realize I only had to pay once.
Was the woman I spoke to wrong?

Why only $2? How far along are you? Do you pay for sonos?
I'm just trying to figure out what I'm supposed to pay with GHI (the city plan). I keep getting different things told me. I just called billing at my Drs, and they said I should just be paying sonos!

Re: Nyc Teachers- GHI question
There are no copays for your regular OB.
But the $30 copay for the high risk is considered a specialist and that is why there are the two separate copays.
I'm also with GHI (DH works for the city), and I have to pay $30 each time I get a sono and see the doc at my high risk OB's office.

I think the 2$ is for THEIR lab fees, like the pee test, while I'll get another bill from an outside lab.
When I got the sonos at LIJ, I also had to pay 30$.

I've been paying the $30 at my regular OB, AND the High Risk Dr.

Re: Nyc Teachers- GHI question
I've been paying $30 a week and I am NYC DOE/GHI.. I think because I am still seeing my RE. Maybe when I go to the regular OB I won't?

yes. once you start seeing your regular OB you will not have to pay your copay anymore.
For the original poster. You have to pay only when you see a specialist or when get a sono. you should not be paying a copy for your regular doctor.

You need to ask the OB's office why they are charging you.
My OB told me the only time I have to make copayments was if I am getting a sono in the office. Otherwise I have NO copay at all until after the pregnancy.
Only the high risk because it's considered a "specialist"

Re: Nyc Teachers- GHI question
With a regular OB you pay one copay the first visit and then only pay $15 lab fee for bloodwork to the lab and $15 sono fee for the sonograms.
You might be paying more bc the RE is a specialist.

Re: Nyc Teachers- GHI question
I cannot even begin to tell you about how complicated my pregnancy has been. There are times where is see doctors 3 times in one week. There no copays. The only thing i pay is $15 dollar copays are for lab fees which for me is quite often. But that bill comes home. i would def look into it because something doesn't sound right. Lemme know if i can help any further. GL

Re: Nyc Teachers- GHI question
You shouldn't pay a copay for the visit, only for sonos and lab fees (yes $2! for the pee test)

I've had the same experience so far. The only copays I've paid were the first visit, sonos and Quest. Prenatal visits should be no copay.....well baby visits are also no copay, just fyi.

You have GHI? What Drs are you seeing? You dont pay for any of them?
I dont see a RE. It's my regular OB that I'm paying 30.
I just spoke to them. They said because I'm still early they are treating me like a gyno patient, not OB...but I'm PREGNANT and going in because of that. Yes, I'm 6 weeks, but I've been in 3 times already and going again Thurs because I'm high risk. This is all my regular OB. She said once they consider be an OB patient (dont know when. I think 8 weeks), then I don't pay. Sounds like a ripoff IMO. I'm friggin pregnant and going in for that.
Thanks girls.

GHI DOE
ummm what?? that's so silly! i agree...u are pregnant!! you wont be more pregnant at 8 weeks than you are now....
in the beginning i saw my reg gyno once every 2 weeks because i was carrying twins. I only paid the first 15 dollars and nothing else other than lab fees for extra tests and blood work. Soon i started going to northshore/LIJ for ultrasounds once every 2 weeks and never paid anything there either. Now because of my complications i am at colombia/ny presb and i cannot even begin to tell you how much has gone on there including ultrasounds, amnios, mri's, genetic counseling, major procedures and overnight stays and i still haven't paid anything out of pocket. i was told everything is covered by my insurance.
hope this helps

I pay only $15 when I get a sono at my ob, but I dont have a copay for the OB visit. When I have to see the specialist, it is a $30 copay.
I have GHI through the NYCDOE.

Re: Nyc Teachers- GHI question
I get a bill for the sono (15 dollars) the dr. visit is free.... with the exception of the 2 dollars for the urine test. Then when you have the baby its 300 for the entire hospital stay. Oh and I pay for labs.... blood work ect.

My mom works for an insurance company and she said that the co-payments should stop.
