NYC tenure question
How do you go about actually getting tenure?
I'm going into year 3 with this license. Do I fill out paperwork or is it automatically given next September?

Re: NYC tenure question
At the end of the third year review, there is a section on the back of the sheet that nominates you for tenure. You HAVE to make sure that the principal sign the section!
Tenure takes place the second day after the next school year!

Re: NYC tenure question
Awesome, thank you. So basically, I don't have to fill out anything, but sign my review in june and have the principal sign it too?

Re: NYC tenure question
your review should be signed by your principal even before you sign it.

It was not automatically given when I worked for the BOE. Maybe every school is different?

tenure is a state thing, and it cant differ by school. If you have worked 3 full years teaching, the day you step into school on the 4th year you are then tenured. The school can deny you tenure or grant you a 4th year to see... but if they dont say anything about denying it, then you automatically receive it... a lot of schools will give a form to you at the end of the 3rd year saying that you were granted tenure...
