Ob/Gyn Question- What would you do?
Ok, so I currently go to University Plaza Ob/Gyn and see Dr. Scavo. I really like her- she is really nice, and easy to talk to. The practice is pretty big- I would say about 6-7 doctors or so. Whenever I call to make an appointment, its always at least a 2 month wait minimum. I just called to cancel my appointment for tomorrow because AF is still here, and they said Dr Scavo doesnt have any appointments until late September! I know September doesnt seem that far off, but to me, the 2+ month wait is crazy!
Now, my best friend goes to Dr Hanauer, who I know comes highly reccomended from a bunch of you ladies here, and my friend says if she has to wait 2 weeks for an appointment, that is alot.
I'm just wondering, would you switch doctors? Or stay with the doctor you've always been going to? I really dont know what to do!

If you really like your ob/gyn I would stay with her. Once you are pregnant and have to start going once a month, they will get you an appointment no matter what, so don't worry about that!

Re: Ob/Gyn Question- What would you do?
Keep in mind that it is summer time and a lot of people take vacations with their families. In that case, the doctors MAY be doubling up on caseloads and appointments to cover for each other leaving little room for additional appointments. I had to wait a long time to be seen by mine as well. That is why the practice I work with mails out letters in advance to let their patients know that they need an exam in the upcoming month or so.

If you do think about switching - keep in mind that your first appointment might not be for a while. They will fit you in when they can but the assumption is that once you are in that the appts will be easier to make. It's a decision you have to make carefully - if you love your doctor now you might want to consider waiting it out. Like someone said above, once you are pregnant they appts will be so much easier to make....or so you hope.
My ob/gyn is great and when I have a problem she sees me right away but for my regular annual exams it's not an immediate appt. Usually I make them a year in advance and even then I run the risk that they will be changed. Last year it was moved about 4 times but all within two months. She had emergencies that had to come first. I have no problem with that because when I need her she is there.
You have to do what you think is best for you.

I go to the same doctors office and see Dr. Putterman. There is always a wait to see her. Its so annoying. But i like her and wouldnt switch except for using someone in the same office.

Ditto!
Also, when you do have a baby you may have to see the other doctors in your practice (at least once in case they need to deliver your baby)
But: With Dr. Hanauer I always got to see just her (plus she told be 99.99 % that she would deliver my baby and she was there for me even though she was not on call)

Re: Ob/Gyn Question- What would you do?
Thanks Ladies! I called Dr. Hanauer's office, and got an appointment within 2 weeks. I'm going to see how I like her, and if I really like her, I am going to stay with her. If I like the other doctor better, I will stay with the original doctor.

When you're a new patient -- there's always a wait.

I wasnt a new patient with Dr Scavo though. I've been going there for year- and yes, it is the norm at that office. I just made my appointment with Dr Hanauer's office yesterday, and only had to wait 2 weeks for an appointment- which is really good.
