Ocean City, NJ - worth it
Friends are staying at a hotel in Ocean City, NJ for a few nights and asked us if we wanted to join bc they got a good rate. The hotel is no frills or anything. Got good reviews it's clean and good location, but rooms are eh. I know it's a dry town too. Never been! Is it worth going? Our boys are 10 and 8 and love the beach. They just wanted a few days getaway before school starts. Thoughts? Worth going? I know to bring alcohol. LOL! Any decent restaurants? Enough to do on the boardwalk? Thanks We're in NJ so I think the drive is only an hour and a half.

Re: Ocean City, NJ - worth it
Never been but dry towns are actually better because you can bring your own booze and it's SOOO much cheaper than buying it a restaurant or at the hotel pool etc. I love BYOB. A $20 bottle of really good wine is like $45 or more in a restaurant.
I am a hotel snob so a hotel that was no frills wouldn't be ideal for me, but I'd probably still go for the kids to have fun and to hang out with some friends as long as the place was clean and no bed begs etc lol
Why not. Summer is so short, might as well take full advantage before the 10 months of winter starts!

Ocean City, NJ - worth it
I was there last September. It’s great. The boardwalk is so clean because it’s a dry town and so family friendly. There are liquor stores that deliver that are just over the bridge. So you can drink in your place but beware they are cracking down on drinking on the beach cause it has gotten worse.
I ran the half marathon there and we all said they have the hottest police force ever!!!!

I've been to a few jersey shore towns and I think this one is my favorite so far. There is a HUGE liquor/wine store right before you get onto Ocean City and it's cheap- load up! The boardwalk is nice and clean and not seedy at all. The town itself was quiet when we went (end of August) and we just really enjoyed ourselves there.

Thank you! We are looking to go end of August before school. Was wondering if 3 nights is too much. The hotel was giving a deal if you stay 2 nights the 3rd is free.

I say go for it! You live in NJ, so you can always leave if you aren't feeling night 3. I mean its free. I think 3 nights will be fun, enjoy the beach before school.

Re: Ocean City, NJ - worth it
We stayed in Sea Isle which is about 15 mins south of here a few summers ago and went here for the boardwalk.
As long as your kids like the beach I think it will be a great vacation. The boardwalk is fun with rides, food, and just interesting to see the sights.
There is a free zoo in cape may that was pretty awesome. I'm sure you could rent bikes, find mini golf or other types of activities in town.
We stopped in smithville on the way down for lunch and the kids rode the carosel and mini train. Your kids might be too old for that but it was a decent place to stretch your legs (Little shops like mystic village).

We go every year and will be going in two weeks. The beaches are clean, boardwalk is fun for kids young and old and i like that there are no bars (so no crazy parties like other jersey shore areas). We always rent a house by the water. I recommend this area for anyone with kids.

Love Ocean City. In my opinion it’s the nicest of all Jersey Shore Boardwalk towns. Very family friendly, not sketchy at all, tons to do! And Manco and Manco...BEST PIZZA EVER!!
