Mini review our our weekend at Ocean City, MD!

We went to Ocean City on Friday, and stayed for 2 nights to celebrate our first anniversary. We had a great time! We had been there once before, but only stayed one night due to a family emergency.

This time, since we had some experience with Ocean City, we were able pick a great hotel, and plan enough to do so that we were perfectly relaxed, and yet not bored.

Hotel--Breaker's Hotel

REALLY nice hotel! Clean, nice decor. Our room was spacious, and we had an ocean view balcony. The bathroom was very comfortable and the shower was perfect pressure.

Bahia Marina

I had never been fishing before, so we took a 3-hour fishing cruise on the bay. It was $24 per person, and $5 for rod rental. I had so much fun! We went around the entire bay and it was so relaxing. There were 2 mates aboard to help out, especially if someone caught anything big.

We saw a nice view of Assategue Island and the ponies!

The Boardwalk

The boardwalk is fun for people watching, carnival games, and the food is great! We had so much seafood.

Our favorite restaurant: Mug and Mallet. The BEST margaritas I have ever had. Happy hour from 1-4 pm, with great specials on sea food (popcorn shrimp, mmmmmmmmmmm!) Also great clams and fried oysters.

Great for burgers: Hammerhead's. Outdoor dining and really juicy burgers.

Best breakfast: Brass Balls cafe. The biggest, fluffiest biscuits I have ever had. I had a breakfast pizza that had eggs, bacon, potatoes, and covered in cheese.

Just one minor warning...

I had a skin reaction during the weekend, that came and went. At first I thought it was my sunscreen, because I was using spf 50, and so I bought more on the boardwalk. However, the second day I had the reaction again (it went away the first day after showering), and it was even worse. I had spend more time in the water the second day. I found out later from my friend that apparently the beach is sprayed for mosquitoes. So this may be why I had the reaction.

My DH was fine, and I have especially sensitive skin always. So just a warning if you have sensitive skin, lay on a towel or blanket on the beach, and definitely shower after going in the water. But really it didn't affect our trip at all, because it was just red splotches that were not itchy.

Well, I hope that was helpful for everyone. Chat Icon

No other comments, anyone? I know it wasn't an amazing trip abroad, but I did take the time to write the review and post pics.

Thanks for the review. Looks relaxing.

DH and I have been wanting to go to Assategue Island with the wild horses. Do you know if we can camp on the beach?

We didn't do Assategue island, but I have heard from people that you can camp there. We decided that since it is a $10 entry fee, we would do a day trip and stay the whole day, rather than just stop for a few hours there on our way home this past trip.

Any suggestions for things to do there? Did you kayak or go on the walking trails? How are they?

Thanks! I was inspired by your trip! So now we finally looked this up and are all set up to go camping there! They have sites right on the beach. We reserved.

We haven't been there, yet. From my research, it seems like you can go crabbing, clamming, bicycling, canoeing (there are rentals for everything), birdwatching, and of course, there are the wild ponies!

We can't wait! Chat Icon

Re: Mini review our our weekend at Ocean City, MD!

Nice review! I wish I had read this before I went last year to know of the good breakfast places, etc... I went last year, and we were by Bahia Marina at a few restaurants/bars

Michi-the area is VERY safe, i felt--there is a trolley that runs the strip I think 24-7 and tis only 2 for the whole day, back and forth.

We loved the crowds there, everyone was so nice.

Mackeys is a fun bar/restaurant that you can sit right on the beach.

We were there 4 nights! BEST PLACE FOR SUNSET!!!Chat Icon

Assateague island-if you go--BRING BUG SPRAY...we were eaten alive by mosquitos when we went in May!

Yup, as Holly said it is very safe. We mainly stayed on the boardwalk at night for dinner, drinks, etc. But there are a ton of people around all the time.

Not sure since I live in MD. It takes us 2.5 hours I think. DEFINITELY go to Ocean City instead of Virginia Beach. We went to Virginia Beach last summer and we found it so boring! The restaurants and boardwalk were not nearly as good.
