Re: Odd Pets Spin
My brother had a huge snake for years and loved it.
I dont' really see anything wrong with keeping those kinds of animals as pets..as long as the owners can care for them.

Re: Odd Pets Spin
My Ball Python now is only 2 1/2 feet & he is a nasty bugger. I had a 13 + foot burmese pythin back when they were legal to keep in NY, and he was the sweetest most amazing snake. I actually used to let him stretch out & roam around my room. Totally mellow snake. I would not get one that big now, because of all the little dogs. I do think it takes a certain owner though, I am not sure if some of the *exotics* should be sold to the general public.

I agree. I think these exotic pets are so appealing because they are less mainstream. But there is a good reason for that. Exotics are A LOT OF WORK! Dogs and cats are pretty easy in comparison. Exotics requre special food, housing, and medical care. I don't agree with them being sold to just anyone. If you want one bad enough, then you should be get a permit.

I agree. Most 'average' petowners do not have the experience and general knowledge needed to take care of exotic pets. They think they are 'neat' and 'different', but don't realize that owning a non-domesticated animal requires additional work and research.
I don't support owning wildlife as pets, unless the animal has been orphaned or injured and cannot survive in the wild on its own.

I forgot to add this......I only have locally bred exotics. None of them have ever seen & probably would not survive in the wild.

Re: Odd Pets Spin
I'm not really a fan of this - I think a wild animal should be wild (agreeing about the orphaned / injured ones who can't live on their own.)
That being said - I always wanted a monkey - particularly the little tiny ones. They are so friggin cute - BUT, I wouldn't get one.

How was the prairie dog as a pet? Where did you get it? I love them, I think they are so adorable - but I think they do belong in the wild.
I have never really understood the snakes. Probably because I am all about the cute/cuddliness factor- and I just feel like cuddling with a snake - not quite the same as say, a bunny rabbit or a kitty.
