Offering $ for house not on market - OPINIONS PLEASE!
Hi Everyone - Just wondering if anyone considered or attempted to offer to buy a house that wasn't on the market. We saw a house we love, and are considering writing a letter to the owners, to see if they would be interested in selling. Is this crazy? Has anyone heard of this? Please give me your opinions! Thanks :) Tabitha

I've never done this for myself, personally, but I did do it in Manhattan for a few clients when I was a broker. One client fell in love with a brownstone in the West Village and the letter paid off!!
It's not crazy! As a homeowner, I'd be flattered. The worst they can do is say no. Good luck!!

My MIL lives in Floral Park, Queens and gets offers to sell her house all the time. She just politely tells them no.

do it on your own. if you hire a broker you'll have to come out of pocket! save your money and approach them on your own, worse that can happen is they say no. good luck and keep us posted!

My MIL gets a letter form the same person every month for some land that she owns.
She is not ready, but she told him that when she is, she will consider his offer.

My parents get letters like this occasionally too! It doesn't hurt.
