Office Etiquette

I know we talk about this all the time but I feel like my LI office is just the poster child for horrible office etiquette.

Yesterday was the infamous Fish in the Microwave and the entire office stunk like low tide for the rest of the day.

This morning I am sitting in my office, trying to concentrate on an important email I was composing and we have the chit-chaters at the printer right outside my door.
It seems the printer is the water cooler of the 21st century.
People gather round to collect their documents and decide to have loud, 20 minute conversations about last night's TV shows, their new furniture, and the latest family drama.
But then I feel like the rude one for getting up and closing my door in their face- so I just sit there trying to tune it out.
Going forward I guess I just have to keep my door closed at all times.

And let's not even get into what goes on in the Ladies Room. My cats use the literbox in a cleaner manner!

I really don't understand how all sense of manners and decorum just go right out the window when people get to work.

I'm betting my office could compete with yours. It's impossible for them to pass my desk without saying my name in a sing song voice just to babble about nonsense.... I can't stand it! sorry, I didn't mean to concentrate and actually do my job while you were being an annoying butthead. :)

Ugh. I hear you. I'm a receptionist so that's not even an option for me. I have to sit there and listen to their rambling and even look interested.

And ugh, the ladies' room. These women are Harvard Law graduates (among others, but c'mon, ivy league!). It just boggles my mind. And then they write passive aggressive notes and post them in the bathroom and complain to me that the bathroom is dirty. Well, perhaps if you ladies learned to FLUSH, you wouldn't be in this situation!

Can you tell this is something that enrages me personally?

i can relate!!! i am so grateful to have an office door to close - and i no longer feel rude when i do it. THEY are rude for socializing right outside my office

i'll admit it... i get rude and close my door in people's faces. they don't ever seem to get the hint though (or, they do and just don't care - much more likely).

the ladies room is just unfathomable. i cannot get over how disgusting some women are.

Agree about the ladies room! I think the bars I went to in college were cleaner. Gross!!!

It is amazing how many grown women do not wash their hands after using the restroom.
Beyond nasty.

Those that do, leave water all over the sink top. Take a paper towel and wipe it up.

Don't get me started on those who brush their teeth and leave droppings in the sink.

Thank G-d for auto-flush toilets !

I have to admit, I am an office chatter. Sorry!! Hehe.

But speaking of bathroom etiquette - does anyone else have those people who leave the paper toilet seat cover on the toilet after they've gone. That for some reason revolts me.

The bathroom on my floor is only shared by me and one other office. The other women are so gross!
Hair everywhere!!
Or they leave the used paper towel on the floor 2" from the garbage pail.. Really!? Are you that lazy you can't pick it up and put it in the trash can!?

I get the fish in the microwave too. So F'n nasty!!!!!!!!!!
I spray lysol after they are done.

I also get the one worker who clips his nails in his office....

No one told my office that!

My office is 95% women.. and you know its bad when people post signs saying "if you sprinkle when you tinkle, please be neat and wipe the seat".

I am so surprised (but shouldn't be) at what some people do in my office.

The best at our office is the person who does not bother to make sure the toilet seat cover has flushed. Ick!

I mean- I have a heavy flow myself since giving birth- but COME ON- how bad could it really be??

Yes yes yes.. my desk is right next to the printer and people stop and talk to me all the time. When I see someone coming I will quickly grab the phone or try to look busy. I don't have time to chit chat every 3 minutes!

The bathrooms here though are exceptionally clean, it amazes me bc usually woman's bathrooms are filth central.

What really bothers me lately is that I often eat at my desk (either working through lunch to get out early or I go out shopping at lunch and eat after) and people will come by and start talking to me about god knows what for what seems like hours.. I don't want to sit there and eat as they are talking to me but I am hungry! If i saw someone eating I would just go back in a little or something.

ETA: At my last job I found a dirty pair of thongs on the toilet bowl. Someone just took them off and left them there.

went to pee and someone was in " my" stall... so i went into another one and there was sh!t smeared all over the bowl.

Heavy perfume/cologne, crying the sun hurts eyes, cant compose/send emails, showing up late DAILY, rotten food in fridge, lunch thief's, office temp complaining, can't complete work tasks, extending lunch times, filthy bathrooms & nosey coworkers..thats my old office ..oh & slackers getting away with it & others have to compensate.
