Official March Tabata Challenge Thread
I wont be able to do my drill until late tonight but want to kick this off for you guys....
You Guys asked great questions on the other thread....
Here's what the format is:
Pick an intense exercise. It can be anything. Some ideas are:
Any plyo move Any type of sprint: running, cycling, stairs, stepping, soccer drills on ball Push ups, burpees, squat jumps Mountain runs Etc
Whatever exercise you choose, it must be intense and full effort right from the start
You are planning on working to failure. What that means is by the end of the interval, you should be crying and banging out the last one. Your muscles should be going on stile and hating you.
The timing is, twenty seconds of the exercise. From second one, you should be ready to die. By fifteen seconds you have no idea how you will get through those final five seconds. But you will because it is only five seconds.
Then, do nothing for ten seconds. Just breathe, curse, etc.
Then you are on again for twenty.
Eight cycles of this until you get to four minutes.
You can download a tabata app called tabata pro for 2.99
If anyone has any other apps or suggestions for splitting the time on whatever device you have, please share on this thread.
Also, on this thread, share your exercise in detail if you can. Share how you feel, etc..... I want to make this a sharing thread as well as a support thread.
Then in April we will come up with a new challenge.... Maybe see if we can do two of these a day.....
Looking forward to seeing how this goes!
Have fun!!

Re: Official March Tabata Challenge Thread
Here's my first tabata workout!:
Spin bike Bicep Curls Elliptical Hammer Curls Burpees Punches with DBs.
I did the four minutes for each exercise and took a break after each 4 minutes before starting the next tabata interval. I had downloaded the gymboss interval timer for the iphone a few months ago and they have the setting for tabata already programmed in. The app is free, too. I was TOTALLY dripping. I need to get the battery replaced in my heart rate monitor but I was definitely way up there..most definitely anearobic! I really loved it!

I've done 24 minute tabata workouts and they are intense!! I give you major credit. I might have to wait until boot camp is over to start the challenge- unless we end up doing more tabata during the class!

Re: Official March Tabata Challenge Thread
I did two minutes of squat jump tabata then made a mid-tabata decision to switch to mini-kickback jumps for the last two minutes in order to avoid a heart attack! LOL. maybe next time, I'll make it to 2.5 minutes

Re: Official March Tabata Challenge Thread
So I did 4 minutes of burpees and all I have to say is that those 10 sec rest intervals go by FAST! I consider myself to be in decent shape, but my lungs were burning!! I've never experienced that before. I don't know if it's because I'm just getting over being sick or if it's just because it's so hard are we supposed to do this every day?

Re: Official March Tabata Challenge Thread
Yeah...so....lol. I attempted to do it but two mins in, I had to stop. I still have a nasty cough and my lungs are just not up for the challenge. I will continue to do it for two mins until I am 100% better.
Day 1= FAIL

Hahah yeah I guess I did 24 minutes...i didnt really think about it. I have been dong tabata intervals for a while but figured I would make an entire workout of it, rather than ust cardio. I think my next one will combine cardio with squats and lunges and dead lifts!

I plan to start mine tomorrow.
Can I do a 4 min set AND go to the gym to take a class? Or do you think that is too much?

Re: Official March Tabata Challenge Thread
I did 4 mins of plyo squats last night after my classes and it was AWESOME! I'm thinking I'm gonna have to integrate tabatas into class tonight. The students are going to hate me

Re: Official March Tabata Challenge Thread
I officially started today and holy bleep is right...
I did burpees, but had to be a psycho and add push ups and plyo jumps in between to make it even more challenging.
One set and I nearly died!!!
I am aiming for everyday.... Do what you can do.
Go for the full 4 minutes even if you have to modify it in between!!!!

Re: Official March Tabata Challenge Thread
Holy cr@p! I just did my first tabata workout. I still am breathing heavy.
I started out doing jump squats. I did 2 rounds. Skipped the 3rd round because I was so tired. Then alternated between jump squats and regular squats. I feel sick, it was so hard.

Re: Official March Tabata Challenge Thread
Hey guys..... You must do all e sets, but you can very up the intensity. For one or two sets, take put the plyo jump, for example.
Or, you can do a less intense version, but do all four min!

I realized I should do a modified version after I skipped the 3rd round...the time goes by so quickly that I didn't think of it in time, lol.

Re: Official March Tabata Challenge Thread
I did all 8 rounds today but I switched up exercises.
1 round of burpees but realized my floor is too slippery
Then switched it up between jump squats and running up and down the step in my living room.
I feel better today than yesterday. Of course, I guess the true test is to do the jump squats again and see how I do with those again.
