oh no.....
my 1 hour is tomorrow morning. I'm totally going to avoid super sugary carby foods beforehand, despite my Dr. saying 'fasting isn't necessary'.
I dread drinking that 'stuff'

The drink really isnt that bad. I honestly liked it. You have 5 minutes to drink it and it's cold.
It tastes like an orange soda but with no carbonation.
I had a bowl of cheerios the morning of my test.

while you shouldn't overdo it with sugar before the test, you shouldn't alter you diet too much so that you get a false reading.

Re: oh boy, did I fail the 1 hour......
I got a sheet that has what my test diet should be.
The test diet for 3 hour glucose tolerance test
For each of the 3 days before the test I have to have 2 or more 8oz glasses of milk, 6 1/2 cups of starchy foods, 4 1/2 cups of fruits, 2 1/2 cup of vegetables, meats, poultry, eggs or cheese
Then in big letters it says ATTENTION. For the test to be accurate sugars, sweets and sodas are allowed as desired during this test diet. To make sure the test results are correct I may choose to "treat" myself to a large hamburger, regular fries, milkshake and dessert at your favorite fast food restaurant for each day of the test diet.

well, it's at 9AM, and normally I wouldn't eat anything prior to noon (my stomach continues to 'sleep' for a while...) For the last several days, I've been munching on carbs as normal... I will, however, avoid carbs altogether tomorrow AM.
on this test, from what I understand, it's fairly easy to get a false positive, and a bit harder to get a false negative. No diet omission should bring on a false negative, since they're not totally overloading your system with sugar like the 3 hour test. I think this test merely checks the speed of insulin release following a carb hit. from what I understand, there's pretty much nothing you can do through diet manipulation to improve that scenario. either you have a fast and sufficient insulin release or you don't.
Definitely don't need to add an extra 30g of carbs from breakfast a half hour earlier to the 50g glucose drink... that likely will skew results to a false positive...
