Hey All -- I just got home from the hospital. I was able to spend most of the day up there between my babysitter, niece and mom helping out and watching Emily. She, luckily, seems a lot less congested. Her nose wasn't running when I got home, she was just overtired and woudln't go to sleep until I was here. She is sleeping now and I hope she sleeps through the night because she was up all last night and I am just exhausted.
So I got to the hospital at like 11 this morning after dropping Emme off and he was still on the respirator and his condition was the same --- the nurse said there was a problem with the cat scan but wouldn't say what --- so I waited around until 7pm when the doctor got there and the doc still never told me, but the nurse ended up telling me.
apparently from him struggling so bad to breathe he developed a hole in his lungs and there is now air in his chest. that is why it was so hard for him to breath and why he was struggling and panicing so much. he wasn't really able to get good breaths of air because the air was leaving his lungs and going into his chest cavity.
however they said that he will need some time to rest in the hospital, but this should be something that will repair itself.
He is off of the respirator now. they took him off temporarily around dinner time and he did well so they took him off completely at like 8pm. he is still on oxygen but is breathing well on his own.
he is experiencing a great deal of pain due to complications with Guillian Barre which is a syndrome that he has had since 25. Most people have never heard of it -- but when he was 25 he was paralyzed -- and rehabilitated --- he walks fine now, but it is a nervous system thing and so things that hurt us just a little hurt him really bad now.
they also put in an IV line called a PICCS line (I think that's what it is called) that goes all the way up his arm and right to the area outside of his heart that will allow them to get meds to him better and take blood easier since they were having a lot of problems with him thrashing around and pulling out his IVs when he was sedated.
I'll be going up there again in the AM so I'll keep you all posted and please keep him in your prayers and hope for his speedy recovory. This was a rough night -- very emotional. I won't go into all the details on here but he said he thought he died --- he is just so scared right now, and it's hard to see him that way.

OMgosh Melissa, I just read your update, I'm so glad he is off the respirator and doing better. You poor girl. I just wanted to send lots of and some more to you guys. I wish there was more I could Do!
