Oh no it's starting!!!! Vent/advice

DD has been great since DS was born until today. She's still great with him, but has had about 97 meltdowns today. She just starts crying about everything. (She's 18 months old and he's 11 days old.) What can I do to make this easier for her????? I pay as much attention to her as I can, try to minimize how much I hold him when she's around, ask her to help me do things, etc.

She doesn't seem interested in her toys or the same activities that she used to before he was born. I'm trying so hard to keep everyone happy but I'm failing miserably and it's depressing.

It doesn't help that DS has starting becoming very fussy the last few days and is always crying. (Ped thinks he's probably milk allergic too, so we are trying a new formula)

Also, DD has been pooping her brains out the last 2 days (soft but not loose) and maybe has a belly ache?!?!? No fever, good appetite....I have no idea what's going on anymoreChat Icon

I'm sorry you are going through this Jodi- I was in the same situation when we brought Caitlin home. Matty was 16 months then- she is two months old now.

He was would have major tantrums when I gave her the bottle. Now, he is a better but he still occasionally gets mad when I feed her. I try my best to read to him and sing to him and play with him but it is hard when I am holding the bottle.

All I can say is that it takes time for them to get adjusted. He is still jealous sometimes but really is 90% better - I was in the hospital for 4 days with Caity and when I came home he was clingy and throwing tantrums. It just takes them time to get adjusted. Do you have any help- someone to watch the baby so you can spend some time alone witih Hannah- that helped Matty- I took him out alone.

Caity had a milk sensitivity and Alimentum worked wonders.

awww, I can see how this is breaking your heart. Poor baby. I don't have any experience with bringing in a second but was thinking that perhaps the pooping problem might just be nerves and stress of the changes she is going through? It is a classic anxiety symptom.

I've thought about that as well. Now that breaks my heart. She pooped through her diapers, pjs and sleep sak this morning. Should I call the ped? Do you know if there anything they can do for her to tell if its stress related vs. virus and treat it?

I'm sorry Hannah's having such a tough time.I'm sure it's really hard on you and I really hope it gets better soon. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I think I would call the ped to see what they say.

Ah, don't be so tough on yourself. It's only been 11 days and you are all going through an big adjustment.

It does get better and a little easier, I promise.Chat Icon Just keep doing what you are doing. I completely understand about feedings. I usually have DS nursing on one side and DD on the other side of my lap either coloring, reading or playing with one of her toys. It's hard but that seems to make her feel good during the feedings.

As far as the pooping problem, it could be a number of things...stress, teething, etc. I would just watch it for now.

Again, I was where you are not too long ago and I know how overwhelming everything feels and is. Hopefully, each day will get better and better. Chat Icon

DS had tantrums the first 2 weeks and has gotten alot better!! I think he realized that she isnt going anywhere and is here for good!!

He would cry over anything and everything and then I would cry because it broke my heart and I felt like it was my fault...

I include him in everything we do, even changing her diaper. I make him throw her diaper away and I make him hold the bottle when I feed her.

It will get better!! I am here if you want to talkChat Icon

ETA: the overwhelming feeling eventually goes away...it's a huge adjustment having 2 under 2 and getting used to all the newborn needs once again!! I had a hard time the first week, because I missed the times with just my son and I and I also missed how independent he was....Once you start getting into some sort of routine...you start to feel alot better

I would call the ped to discuss it. Again, I have no experience with what you're going through or what she is going through. It's just such a big change for her but there is one thing we do know...she is going to get used to it eventually. It just might take a little time. And what you're doing really is all you can do. I applaud you that you're making such a conscious effort to pay as much attention to her as you can.
