Oil - Balanced billing?

How many of you do balanced billing for your oil?

Our tank holds 275 gallons and we were told that to do the balanced billing, it would be $180 a month. If we don't do the balanced, we are locked in at $2.79

I know it's probably 6 of one, 1/2 dozen of the other - but we don't know what to do.


Also - how often do you fill your tank over the winter?

(again - please forgive all the oil questions - we are new to this!)

I don't do the balanced billing, I prefer to just pay the bills as they come. Then in the summer we have a little extra money.
As far as usage...I believe we spent around $1600 last year @ $2.64/gallon...so we probably went through about 700 gallons.
We also have a 275 gallon tank, but we both work days so I have the heat at 58 degrees during the day and then it comes up while we are up and around, then back to 60 degrees at night.

We have balanced billing for our 275 gallon tank with a service contract w/Petro. We did a ceiling rate in Jan'07 that we locked in. We pay $180 a month and right now Petro owes us about $250 since we have turned off the heat in May and we still haven't turned it on. Our appliances are electric, so oil is only used to heat the water for laundry, D/W and shower.

I do balanced billing with Meenan and I like knowing what it will be each month rather then paying $500 a month Dec - March.
