Re: oil company- looking for a new one wondering about prices
Just got some quotes over the past two days:
Meenan - $2.74 currently, ceiling of $2.99 for the year, $119 service contract
Slomin's - $2.79 lock in for the year (they didn't offer me any ceiling rate), $109 service contract
Petro - $2.99 currently (eventually got them down to $2.74) with a ceiling of $3.18 for the year, $129 service contract
Both Meenan & Petro offered $100 credit if someone refers you.

Are they really? That's weird because when I talked to Petro I told them Meenan gave me a better rate and they went on and on about how their service is better. Oh well, I never know which companies are related anymore.
The ceiling means the price will never go above that amount for the year. It could go down but will never go higher.

Re: oil company- looking for a new one wondering about prices
What a drag to have to search for the "best" price for oil...we were locked into a great rate last year with Slomins but this year they quoted me a price $2.84 and $165 for a service plan...I spoke with General and they gave me a price of $2.49 with a ceiling of $2.77 and $125 for a service plan.
I guess I will be freezing in my house next year...

Re: oil company- looking for a new one wondering about prices
I am not a fan of "ceiling plans". Who's to say what numbers they use to determine their market rate for oil? Especially when you are already locked into them! The ball is in their court and they have you.
Nine times out of ten, I can see them just charging you the ceiling rate after the initial delivery.
Either lock me in for an entire year with no ceiling and one fixed price. Or I am doing COD or going with Heat USA where I get a free service contract and oil delivered at below market rates. And if I am not happy with the price, I can cancel at any time.

They are an oil buying cooperative. Here are the main things to know:
You sign up with them, there is no contract, no lock in, you can cancel anytime.
They pair you up with a local full service oil company. You don't get serviced by Heat directly, you get serviced and oil deliveries from your local oil company. In my area I have a choice between Windsor and General.
You get a free oil service contract (no $100-200 yearly fee).
You get oil deliveries on a regular basis like you would if you were locked in. The price for oil is based on the current market rate. I find that typically it is a little more money than COD, but it's less than what the full service companies charge you.
You can cancel at any time if you aren't happy with the service. You just have to pay Heat $20 a year for member dues which is nothing.
I have been getting my oil this way through Heat for about two years now. No real complaints. There are two main things I like about Heat. I can cancel at anytime if I am not happy with the service. And I get a free service contract.
This program is great for people who are just not sure if they should lock in or if they should wait, but want their oil system to be covered in case they run into problems.

The service contract covers repairs to your oil boiler in the case it needs top be fixed or repairs.

Stay away from General - Yes their techs are the best in the business but their customer service people are the worst out there. We have had them for 3 years now and cannot wait till our contract ends

Re: oil company- looking for a new one wondering about prices
I personally had no issues with General... and their technicians were way better than Slomins.
I think you could have issues with any oil company.

Re: oil company- looking for a new one wondering about prices
We used Lewis for the past couple of years and they were OK. Last year we had a great rate...I think it was like $2.64. I am looking to renew now, but what to shop around a little bit more.

Have to agree with that their customer service leaves alot to be desired and they are VERY misleading
