Have you ever done budget, balanced billing? We love it. Pay 12 months and service included. Ours changes every April. This year we went up in price a little bit but some years it has gone down by our usage.

We do. But it’s still going to be more monthly based on pricing. Tired of it tbh

Ugghh yeah I get that. We have used the same oil company for close to 30 years. We haven’t had any major problems so we have stuck with them.

We locked in January. And I always hate that we are due to relock in winter, the worst possible time. I hate the renegotiating with a passion each year so I feel you!

Can you avoid a contract and just order when needed upon delivery.

There are a few sites I go to when I need oil; and its much cheaper than a contract.

Unless maintenance is something you need.
But even that; it might be cheaper to pay that out separately should anything go wrong.

Re: Oil contract up end of July

We just do COD for this reason. No contracts.
It's always cheaper that way we find

We use Slomins and are up in July as well. I always re-contract with them. We are at $1.999 right now. I'm hoping it stays lower with the summer prices when we renew.

Maintenance isn’t necessarily an issue because my brother installs and maintains boilers (he isn’t very local but would come help if I needed it) and we have a local reliable plumber who could also help. The COD thing scares me because so many people I knew had issues getting oil on the coldest days of the year. Even through their contracted deliveries and especially through COD. I don’t want to get stuck that way. We could use our wood burning stove to heat the house (it heats the whole thing) BUT our hot water is linked to boiler and not a tank so we’d be filthy lol

I’ve been trying to get DH on board with just doing the conversion but there’s always another project he feels is more important. I may go push the conversion more this summer - we have the plumber coming to do other work so while he’s here I’ll pick his brain some more

We do COD and have been doing it for many years now and never had an issue getting oil. We call when it's getting low but not when it's an emergency. You should never be waiting until the tank is empty anyway as it's bad for the system. We call when it's about a 1/4 tank left and they have always delivered within a day or 2. Saved us so much money over the years. Dh does all the maintenance and repairs himself.
ETA...we can't convert as my block has no gas lines

We converted back in 08 and it was the best thing I ever did. No more worrying about oil contracts and deliveries. Also it’s cleaner!!

I order from discount-fuel.com, they are in Ronkonkoma and deliver all over. No contract. I pay for someone to do the yearly tune and vac. Furnace is new so I'm not worried but if I had an older system that wasnt in great shape I would do the contract

Exactly. We check it often in the winter and always order when its a little over 1/4 full. This way if it takes a few days; which is rare; I will have enough oil to get through. If you dont need it for maintenance, I definitely would use COD.
There are so many sites to choose from; COD Fuel (which list about a dozen companies) and Discount Fuel are my main sources.

You're paying a fortune for technically a peace of mind sorta speak. Maybe in the winter you can set reminders on your phone to check it every month or so?

I also have no gas lines on my block either so it's the only option for me too.
