Oil Prices.....I called around today/yesterday as our contract is up.
FYI - this is what I was able to get:
Slomins: $99 yearly contract - includes 24/7 emergency service - annual tuning - parts and labor Oil = $3.049/gallon w/$.05 coupon from Yankee Trader
General: $87 + change contract - includes 24/7 emergency service - annual tuning - parts and labor Oil = $3.189/gallon (yesterday was $3.169)
Petro First call: Fixed Oil Rate = $3.499 Ceiling Oil Rate = $3.709 Contract = $125/yr
2nd Call = Fixed Oil Rate = $3.319 Ceiling Oil Rate = $3.629 Contract = $125/yr
3rd Call = (this is after I told them I had heard from other companies with lower rates and they gave me a speel that they have been around longer, more trusting, better equipped, etc) Fixed Oil Rate = $3.299 Ceiling Oil Rate = $3.629 Contract = $99.95/yr + $25 oil credit

Try JC Discount. You can find their ad in Pennysaver or Yankee Trader.

Re: Oil Prices.....I called around today/yesterday as our contract is up.
I have General and I got oil delivered a couple of weeks ago and my oil was $3.40/gallon. I would definetely confirm that number with them. I can't imagine oil prices went down that much over 2 weeks. And the week after that my parents got oil delivered for almost $3.60/gallon.

We have General Benit for the last year and a half and so far (knock on wood) we have had no problems. In the times we needed service they came right a way. Our contract was up in the summer so we did get a lower price.

I have Marran and have never paid for a service contract. I usually lock in a price for a year.

The phone number for General is 800-343-2250. They have a few divisions so just be sure you get the oil division. My DH works for them (in security).

Wow Betsy.
Whoever you decide to go with, ask them what their mid-contract cancellation fee is. Because you can probably get much better rates at the end of spring/summer.
Doesn't Slomins do 6-month contracts?

Nope. I checked with all 3 companies and they each said they don't do 6 month contracts.
Next year, we're just going to go with a service contract and COD for oil.
I hate this battering!!!!

I just locked in on a new rate with Slomins (we used them last yr) and it is only for a 6-month contract which would expire in July 08.

Re: Oil Prices.....I called around today/yesterday as our contract is up.
We decided to go with Slomin's - we read over the contract and asked him the pertinent questions that many of you raised and we discussed the issues we had over the last year, and he discussed the status of the furnace, etc.
We locked in at $3.049 last night and got the contract.
Next year we'll look into COD, so we can stop this winter haggling over oil prices.
