Oil question
I never had oil before and I noticed that when I'm running the dryer, there is a strong oil smell in the basement. Should it smell this way?

Re: Oil question
your dryer is either gas or electric and should have nothing to do with your oil burner.
Did your burner just kick on? Maybe its a little bit of a puff back that you are smelling but it has nothing to do with the dryer...

The only thing I can think of is that if your oil tank is buried in the ground and your dryer is in the basement and on the same side of your house as your tank, then your tank may be leaking.

Re: Oil question
I think dryers only use gas or electric.
hmmmm, where is your oil tank? sometime when the boiler kicks on there is a faint smell. Maybe your burner needs a cleaning. If you don't know the last time it was serviced or cleaned it might be worth having someone come by to check it out.

Re: Oil question
if your oil burner is in the basement, sometimes you will smell oil burning, our tank is outside but the burner is under the stiars on the main floor, sometimes we do smell oil burning especially after a delivery, you might want to call you company and tell them you smell oil

are you sure? tank and burner are 2 separate units. my tank is buried in the front, the burneris in the basement. from time to time (when the burner turns on) there is an oil smell in my basement.

Re: Oil question
I would call your oil company, or find one ASAP, and have them come to do a cleaning on the boiler. They will check everything out for you.
