Car - oil change question???

I am suppossed to have my oil change at 4,000 miles or November.
I am only at 1,800 miles.
Can I wait to get it done maybe in Dec. or Jan? I barely drive this car (it is a 2006).
Thanks!

Re: Car - oil change question???

depends- is the oil change free under a service contract? They may require you go every Xamount of months. If you don't take it, it may void the service contract. This happened to one of Rich's friends. I would call the dealership.

If its not a free-under-contract oil change, i would wait til Dec or Jan...closer to 4k miles.

I would wait until you hit the miles..or at least get a little closer. But then again I'm so bad at getting it done, I'm overdue for one.

Re: Car - oil change question???

even though you don't use the car, you may want to change the oil as when oil sits, it goes bad as well.

rule of thumb from a car mechanic, 3 months/3000 miles, which ever comes first...so for you, 4 months/thousand miles. And this was when i was getting free oil changes from family (it takes 10 minutes... i would consult someone you may now in auto business.
car won't go bad if you wait till u hit that mark, just that the oil will be colder and consider its getting colder outside...i would change it...

a small cost now will prevent your engine from going bad early in life...
