Ok.... I stink at this mommy thing...

Ok.. I'll come out with it. Alexa has 2 toys! THAT'S IT!!! Chat Icon

We have Freddy the Firefly (Lamaze brand) and some other soft square cube.

I don't know what to get her... she is 5 months old and has her mouth on EVERYTHING.... I really want stuff that is BPA free and lower on the chemical side.

I don't even know where to BEGIN.....

I feel like such an As* at playgroups because all these moms have all these toys already..... She JUST started showing interest in them so I haven't thought much about it yet.

Any suggestions for this toy handicapped mom?

My son has these two toys when he was about that age and LOVED them - in fact he will still play with them occasionally now at 19 months.

How old is she?

We didn't have a lot of toys until DS was 8 months (his first Christmas) and he didn't really love anything except the FP Singing Stage, great toy, for a long time

ETD-I just saw she is 5 months. I agree witht he PP on the toys she suggested.

Don't feel bad. I have bought DS a million and one toys and he has no interest in any of them whatsoever.

A co-worker had told me that it is a waste of money to buy toys in the first year because they'll be more interested in like the wrapping paper, box the toy came in, and the poppy paper. He was totally right!

One toy that DS loves is this jingle ball that I bought from gymboree. I also bought the parachute and bubbles from there.

I think you were totally smart to hold off on toys until this age -My son had a room full of toys thanks to his over zealous grandparent and despite, his favorite to thing to play with was a wooden spoon!

At six months, I remember two things my son really liked -musical instruments (maracas, tambourine...things he could shake) and an activity cube (like this http://www.amazon.com/Maxim-MXI52344-5-in-1-Learning-Cube/dp/B000FIQRGS/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1247752650&sr=1-17 )

I'm a fan of http://oompa.com/ to look for toys, because you can search by age, brand or type and they have good descriptions of materials used and stuff.

Happy Shopping!

Re: Ok.... I stink at this mommy thing...

dd is 7 months old.. and some things she has enjoyed since about 5 1/2 month until now are.. is a monkey that sits on a ball and moves(got it at kohls),we have the stackers from pp but it lights up and sings, all types of teething rings.. i think everyone in our family has bought her at least one so we have many.. i think they are called belly laughers from baby enstein(from BRU)its a little stuffed annimal but the belly has little shapes in ti and when you pull the string they move around. she also has the jingle bells from gymboree that she is just now learning to shake, also from gymboree dh says it looks like a dog toy its a "blow up cylendar that has bumbs all over it" but she loves putting it in her mouth b/c i'm sure it feels good on her gums. One of her new favorite toys is a moraca from my cousing baptism(a dj give away) this kid loves to make noise and bang things.

They don't need 50 thousand toys. At some point DS got so many toys, I purged and removed a lot of them. I rotate them. It's better for them not to be overwhelmed.

DS likes the Lamaze toys. He also likes anything with music, lights or buttons. He love the Taggies toys and books.

Re: Ok.... I stink at this mommy thing...

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the Lamaze brand toys. I see them a lot at TJ Maxx and Marshall's too. DD loved them as an infant. They are usually "crinkly" sounding, have bells, etc., but don't usually run on batteries. I think they are great and you can throw them in the washing machine.

Most teething toys are BPA free now and my kids are into those. I also have the FP laugh and learn musical table(I am not sure if thats the name) but it has legs you can remove. They both love their exersaucers and Ronan loves the jumpy seat

I have a book that came with finger puppets and they are obsessed with those
