Ok.. I'm freaking out a little... Update on bottom

Here's the story. I had miscarriage last year. Tommorow is the day I m/c'ed last year. I got a bfp again last week.

I should preface my own drama by saying that when the doctor's office called they were all happy with numbers and told me that everything was great.

But.... I obsess anyway....
So the first beta was 619. Today's was 1100-ish. (can't remember the last number but over 1100 and less than 1200). So that is not exactly doubling. 1238 would be doubled. So that freaks me out. Is beta doubling an exact science? Is that okay??

Now the second part that really has me about to go over the deep end..

My first progersterone was 24. Today's was 21. The office says that it is fine. If it goes below 10 I get support. But, they didn't say why it was dropping. Does progersterone flucuate a little? Shouldn't it be rising? And I don't go back to office until next Tuesday for a Sono!! I think this means that I am miscarrying again? Does it? I told the nurse this and she said it still way in the normal range and again she didn't seem concerened by the drop. But, I am.

I am so scared... Where are my experts out there???

Don't worry about the progesterone, it will fluctuate like that, if it goes below 15, they will give you prog. suppositories, either 1 or 2 x a day.

The beta is not an exact science. It is very close to doubling. I would be nervous if it only went up 10 or 20%. If the dr. said it was ok, then trust your dr.

I wouldn't worry about either. I know - easier said than done and I probably would be a little worried myself but that is what we do going thru IF - worry too much. If someone else posted this I am sure you would tell them not to worry either.

Progesterone fluctuates and the Beta was close to doubling.

Are you going again soon for more bloodwork?

First off, congrats!!! (I didn't respond in your other post yetChat Icon )

2nd...as betas get higher, they don't double as quickly. When I was pg with my son, my first beta was only 168!!! Your firt beta was 3x that!!! So, I would try not to worry too much. Easier said than done, I know.

Re: Ok.. I'm freaking out a little...

Your beta actually needs to go up 60% every other day, not actually double. So don't wory about that...

Also, don't worry about the progesterone...it will fluctuate!

Re: Ok.. I'm freaking out a little...

Nothing I'm finding online is supporting that progesterone can vary.

"Progesterone levels rise much differently than hCG levels, with an average of 1-3ng/ml every couple days until they reach their peak for that trimester. In situations when there is a concern of an ectopic pregnancy or miscarriage, hCG levels will often start out normal, but will not show a significant increase or will stop rising all together, and progesterone levels will be low from the beginning."

Why did mine go down?

Eta: All right.. now I found this..

"Although it is a vital component of a healthy pregnancy, most doctors believe it is unlikely that a miscarriage can be caused by low progesterone levels. Usually, an abnormal decline in progesterone is a symptom of another factor causing a miscarriage. Still, progesterone levels can fluctuate widely, even during pregnancy, so a drop in progesterone one day may be followed by an increase the next."

That calms me a little. I need to relax. I just bit DH's head off a few times. This anniversary date of m/c tomorrow has me all out of sorts.

Can you call and ask for them to call in progesterone pills? My Dr. Puts PG women with any history of loss on them at the start for peace of mind. I dont see what it could hurt and would ease your mind?

I don't remember the exact numbers - but I know my progesterone went down a few points from my first beta to my second - and I was taking suppositories. Now I am 24.5 weeks pregnant... its totally normal!

Re: Ok.. I'm freaking out a little...

Update:
Okay I was worried all day so I called the doctor. He told me that 24 to 21 is not a drop. He was really understanding that I am so scared since today is my m/c date from last year. He said the numbers look great and that progesterone fluctuates throughout the day sometimes as much as 5-7 points.

I feel so much better. I needed that reassurance. He told me that I am being very much monitored and just made me feel so much calmer.

I am little sad since he will be raising money for the march of dimes next tuesday and will not be there for my first sono. But, he did tell me in advance not to expect to see a hearbeat yet. He said that would come in about 2 weeks from today. I am REALLY glad he said that because that would have been my next freak out. Chat Icon

So anyway.. thanks for all the support through my little freak out..

This is exactly what happened to me with DD and my RE told me the same thing yours told you. My prog was always in the 20s and I never supplemented, even though I had those fluctuations. Now she's a wonderful little 2 year old!
